Title: 50 cpus at my disposal, would like to mine primecoin Post by: mokimarket on October 21, 2013, 06:44:03 PM So I have a guy that wants me to setup a mining rig for primecoin on 50 cpus in his office (he owns the place)
I'm pretty sure they are just basic computers, would it make more sense to join a pool still or just solo mine on all of them? Title: Re: 50 cpus at my disposal, would like to mine primecoin Post by: Prelude on October 21, 2013, 06:45:19 PM Depends what kind of CPUs they are. Some might be worth solo mining, others not.

Assuming I have dual core 1.86ghz cpus? Im pretty sure pool is better, if you connect only to slow clients, you may get higher stale ratio, worse than paying pool fee Title: Re: 50 cpus at my disposal, would like to mine primecoin Post by: mokimarket on October 21, 2013, 11:55:42 PM I'm pretty sure they are just basic computers, would it make more sense to join a pool still or just solo mine on all of them? Title: Re: 50 cpus at my disposal, would like to mine primecoin Post by: SpeedDemon13 on October 22, 2013, 12:05:56 AM You can run a two to three days test run to see what can possibly be made when averaged out.

How did you come up with these numbers? Basically I have a guy that want to setup an operation that mines 1000 xpms a day and he's asking me what he needs to buy to get it setup. That figure sounds about right. The dual core 1.86 may take a couple of months to get a block, which will be even worse when the difficulty crosses 10. He 'owns' the place - does he also get free wlectricity? Otherwise he will just lose money, unless he holds onto them and beleives they will be worth a lot more in future. But then you can just buy them. I mine here: http://ypool.net [/quote] Ok, and if I wanted to maximize the abount of xpm/day a single CPU could produce, what sortof core processors should I be looking at? I7s? I have a guy that wants to mine 1000s of these things a day. Cost and electricity is not an issue at all...I just need to give him some ballpark hardware stats. I think that buing hardware now is stupid idea (CPU and GPU mining) Title: Re: 50 cpus at my disposal, would like to mine primecoin Post by: belltown on October 22, 2013, 05:25:25 PM I have a guy that wants to mine 1000s of these things a day. Cost and electricity is not an issue at all... I think it impossible. There are only about 14k XPMs available to be mined a day. You need serious mining power to get "1000s of these things a day". Are you sure he has so much funds and electricity to get.. say 10% of the network? BTW, if that would happen he would raise difficulty. Title: Re: 50 cpus at my disposal, would like to mine primecoin Post by: c1010010 on October 22, 2013, 05:50:34 PM The difficulty rise is hard to project, but you should do a couple of data point analyses with increasing difficulty.
Look at the exponential growth of BTC diff. I don't think he's really concerned about money or power, but I don't think we should be taking 10% of the network power. I'm thinking a 1-2% is where we want to be. |
