Just to add, it is also an open source software, meaning it can be inspected, modified and/or enhanced by programmers--everyone can take part in its continuous development.

Bitcoin core is a wallet that downloads and verifies the whole blockchain. You would need 160+ Gig space and considerable time to sync/download the blockchain. Usually it's only a choice to consider if you plan to operate a bitcoin service or mining pool.

Bitcoin core is a programmed designed, to show which blockchain has valid transaction.
