Title: Manufactured consent and Cyberwar
Post by: Anonymous on July 13, 2010, 11:35:46 AM
Interesting paper I just read today.

http://www.belowgotham.com/LD-2010-WP.pdf (http://www.belowgotham.com/LD-2010-WP.pdf)

In light of the "internet kill switch" they want to implement a lot of scare mongering seems to be in the media about the threat of cyber attacks. What are your thoughts on this issue?

In Australia we are facing massive censorship of the internet by politicians claiming they are "protecting the children".If you come out and say anything against this policy they accuse you of supporting child abuse.Im really tired of the whole nanny state mentality.

Yes, the free days of the internet are over.  The free days of the darknets, OTOH, are just beginning  ;)  Soon, we'll have anonymous WiMax, and then SWANsat  ;D

Hehe. The proper name would be Wireless community mesh network (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wireless_community_network). There are such networks all over Europe; the primary goal is not file-sharing, but some file-sharing is, of course, taking place.

I'm involved in a local effort to build such a network in my city; eventually we'll be connecting the network to an already established VPN that connects different cities. Later on, that VPN may be merged with other European networks, and in the end we hope to become mostly independent of traditional ISPs.

I think a buddy of me is already taking part of this. I'll ask him occasion, maybe I'll take part, too.
