Title: Coinmarketcap.com currency price in dollars how in fact it is calculated?
Post by: kolan_f on March 21, 2018, 12:16:34 PM
Raised of very interesting question: https://coinmarketcap.com/ru/currencies/bitcoin/#markets – the price is shown for bitcoin in dollars according to exchange and type of currency pairs and how in fact it is calculated? (for example, there is the couple of LTC/BTC for any exchange - how the bitcoin price in dollars is determined for this couple?) ???

The question is not quite clear. The price of bitcoin in dollars is determined on this site based on the average value on the largest exchanges. The ratio to LTC in dollars can not be determined. The ratio is determined in LTC units per BTC. That is, if the BTC costs 8000, and LTC 200, then the ratio is 200/8000.

Coin values are shown in bitcoins and bitcoin value is shown in USD.

I am not sure about LTC/BTC example because LTC also has USD value, but they are probably calculating all coins based on BTC/USD pair.

But why different pairs from one market has different USD prices?

Well due to volatility of Bitcoin price coin market price determine the price of a token base on their contract on the said ICO token, it is more likely they based it on ETH value with dollar value and value of coins is automatically computed by computer based on its demand and supply system.

Could you explain in more detail the real pairs from the page?

I can confirm from my own findings that USD value is based on total bitcoin value. Even USDT is converted to actual dollar value so even Tether pairs are not the exact figure. Why does it matter though? Someone said it is based on contract and even ETH value but that is just nonsense. Volatile so what? Data is updated as quickly. Makes no difference.

I think the estimation calculations are performed by the system's quick count recapitulation system synchronized by the stock exchange to the coinmarketcap application in accordance with the volatility of bitcoin, altcoin and dollar prices

I have checked the link and it shows now a value for Russian Ruble and with your question about the calculation. There is programming in it, correct me if I'm wrong with my understanding to your question.

I found the answer on CoinMarket FAQ, hope it help you.
Price is calculated by taking the volume weighted average of all prices reported at each market. Sources for the prices can be found on the markets section on each cryptocurrency page.

The price differences are mostly caused by the volumina on exchangers. If you want to do a meaningful comparing, take the bids and asks on the exchangers. The last trades are shown on exchangers. I use coinmarketcap for an overview and Blockfolio for comparing bids and asks on the exchangers for my arbitrage trading.

It is good actually, if there is marketplace of the concern coin has been shared with the dollar value that can be easy understandable for the newbies who is accessing this coinmarketcap site.
To answer you question, we know there would be changes on the bitcoin value at the same time you will find the very little amount of price fluctuation on fiat currency as well. So you will get the coin with the price changes on both the medium and finally exhibited dynamically.
