Title: Question on mining with multiple GPU's and combined khash,
Post by: Cablesaurus on February 04, 2011, 08:15:22 PM
On my 5970 I have things setup where I'm getting ~345khash on Core 1, and ~295khash on Core 2. I'm using the python opencl miner, in Windows 7, and I have to run 2 instances of the miner .exe, 1 on each core.

It occured to me since I'm running 2 instances, aren't my results not "pooled" between the cores? Wouldn't it make more sense for me to somehow pool the block search? Would there be a simple way for me to do this?

I've never done pooled mining yet with a public group either, but I'm just curious and trying to investigate. Thanks for any thoughts.

In effect, you have a 2 client pool. Since you're the only one in it, there's no reason to set up anything more elaborate.

are more gpus better than more cpus on a mining rig?

My 6 core 1090t does less than 10,000 k/hash per second. My radeon 5970 does ~660,000 k/hash per second. Yes, gpus are much better than cpus.

Yes, gpus are much better than cpus.

Unless your GPU doesn't have CUDA or OpenCL support, in which case I recommend pool mining with jgarzik's CPU miner.

Correct. kldunc, I recommend looking over this chart of various gpus and their respective hashes/second. http://pastebin.com/AvymGnMJ
