Merit was launched and it will exist in the forum forever. I think in the future, some changes will be added to the current merit system in order to make it stricter for better controlling spammers, merit cheaters and merit farmers.
It will be here to keep the forum clean.

I think it's actually very valuable having a merit system. Any place where anonymity and communication cross paths I think it's vitally important to have some system of accountability

It can't be deleted, it's on the block chain - it blocks spammers and useless posters from ranking up. :)

I think as long as the forum alive merit system will exist forever.

This system helps a lot not only for spammers and multi-account seller, it pushes other members to make a high-quality post and I notice that other members are careful not to have a negative trust because it's hard to them to start again from the beginning because of merit system will prevent you to rankup except for those high-quality posters.

So my guess this system will stay forever.

I'm less surprised about that than the fact that he's earned 4 merits already.  Haven't looked at the rest of his output, but if his other posts are anything like what he wrote here, either someone is doing a charity job with their sMerits or OP is engaged in a wee bit of merit trading.  I'm not accusing him of anything here, because as I said I haven't looked into it...but it might be worth examining.

As far as OP's question goes--who the fuck knows?  That's like asking how long bitcoin is going to exist or how long it's going to take before all my hair goes gray.  From what I've seen, Theymos doesn't make quick, rash decisions that he reverses himself on, so I don't think he's going to scrap the merit system anytime soon.  I wouldn't go so far as to say it's here to stay for good, but I think he'll keep it until someone thinks of a better solution to the shitposter/sig campaign problem, i.e., killing off shitposters while still keeping signature campaigns. 

Maybe when the new forum software is rolled out in 2167, the whole merit thing won't be included in it ( ;) ).  Before then?  Probably not.

I think will stay forever. Merit the minimizer of spamming and shit posts. Merit is good and it is very useful. It is so cool because now on you can't rank up easily because you need to reach the merit thats is needed to rank up.

Are you a moderator of this forum. You are here a member so try to make some solid topics. If you don't have then atleast try to make the post where you put your all thinking  and certainly what you feel. Elaborate it completely.

You are wondering how long you will remain at Junior level before you rank up.  It is up to you. But it looks like you have already lost hope.

Merit exist for the benefit of every members and for the goodness of the forum.Without it for sure the forum will be full of spam and garbage messages.So whether you like it or not the merit system will stay.

Merit is already part of this forum, and those member who are posting good quality is the one who are benefited by this system and forcing all members to be more productive of every post we made in this forum, this system will exist for ever i think there will be some enhancement in the future but still it will gives more benefit to this community.

Merits will last forever, only sMerits can decrease due to giving away or decaying (which has not been implemented by Theymos, forum admin, but might happen some days in the future). By the way, users got nothing to hoarding their sMerits.

Good news, merit system will surely exist as long as post like this exist.
Remember why this system has been implemented, its because of spam post like this and of those alt accounts.

No one can tell you the correct answer except the admin who introduced the merit system.

Merits system can be here for quite long as:

1) After the merit system was implemented a lot of new members also stared making quality posts. The content length increased from one liners to more. We was  lot of members taking out time for creating useful threads like stats related to merit system. The meta section once again became alive with huge participation from a lot of members.

2) I think it is designed in a way that it will keep getting better with time.

NO. You are wrong. Merits of one account always be here even account owner leave the forum, inactive forever. Merits will always be here.
For instance, Satoshi, founder of the forum, who left the forum several years ago but his account and his merits always be here.

I think merit will continue to exist... but I'm not sure for how long.
people who deserve to rank up aren't ranking up because sMerits aren't being fairly awarded. notice they only give sMerits to each other, like some kind of circleshake. Legendaries only give merits to Legendaries, and so on and so forth. If they give merits to newbies it's only 1 and rarely at that.

I think the merit will not exist too longer. because there are too much problem with the merit system. There will be a new and revised merit system will be seen very shortly. with which we all be happy.

The merit system will be here as long as it helps restore the forum to its initial goal and purpose. And also, so far it's helping the forum have some peace as everyone who hadn't improved their posting quality are still stuck in their previous ranks. And with time as posts don't help anyone rank up again, shit posting will stop and most shit posters will as well leave the forum.
