Title: Activity and Post numbers - what is the difference?
Post by: Dklinov on March 22, 2018, 05:20:50 PM
Dear Bitcointalk Advanced Fellows,

I noticed the difference in a number of Activity and Post in my profile. What is the difference between these two? I have also noticed that my posts are increasing as I am posting more topics. However, my activity remains the same as it used to be a week ago. Please explain why? Should the number of Activity be the same or it does not matter much? Thank you in advance!

Activity only updates once every two weeks.  To better understand how everything works I advise you to take a look at the stickied topic on top of the forum labeled Newbies - Read before posting https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1689727.0 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1689727.0)

To help out a little further here is the section in that post that will help you understand how activity is calculated.

How is forum activity calculated?
Activity is calculated with the following formula:
Code:
activity = min(time * 14, posts)

Activity is increased by staying logged in or by posting and is updated every 30 minutes. There is a maximum of 14 activity points every 2 weeks.

The last sentence pretty much answers your question. You can post 100 topics or replies a week but you will only gain a max of 14 activity every 2 weeks.  This was to also prevent people from spamming posts in order to rank up. While this worked we still saw an influx of new members and account farming which is why merits were introduced so you now have to have both activity and a certain amount of merit to increase in rank.  More information on that can also be found in that post.

Hope that helps.

The first thing you should do when you join a forum is to read the rules, then read the pinned threads ( stickies ) that you find at the top of each of the boards. You will find some comprehensive explanations of merit, posts and activity there.

I have also noticed that my posts are increasing as I am posting more topics.
short explanation that I can give you:
Post = the number of posts you've posted since you joined the forum
Activity = an indicator how active (how long) you've been in the forum

However, my activity remains the same as it used to be a week ago. Please explain why? Should the number of Activity be the same or it does not matter much? Thank you in advance!
you can read previous reply on how to calculate/determine activity number
naturally by definition above, activity numbers will always be lower than post numbers
at best you could have the same numbers for post and activity when you only posted once a day in your forum's life
