Title: Should I power MB/CPU with basic PSU to take load off GPU PSU? Post by: jamesgalb on March 22, 2018, 11:41:30 PM I have a rig of 4 RX 580s on a 850w Corsair RMx. They pull just under 700w from the wall.
Considering I have a spare 450w PSU from an older Dell PC sitting around, would it help my 850w PSU at all if I split off the MB and CPU to the spare PSU? A splitter is under $10. Given that you are running at 82% (700/850w), you're probably at a safe spot and need not run a separate PSU. However, i'd go another step and further undervolt your cards a little more. With more power space you can expand your cards setting, without worries.
