Title: Can old Butterfly Labs miners be re-purposed to mine altcoins?
Post by: Nat3 on March 23, 2018, 01:13:38 AM
I ran into a few of these being used as paper weights https://i.imgur.com/UmP9LfR.png

Is it possible to repurpose these miners to do anything useful?

Yes they can mine alt Sha256 coins like Bitcoin cash.

Is it worth it? No.

You'll be spending more on electricity than what you will gain in mining. ASICs rule SHA256 and bitcoin mining today.

To put things into perspective, thats like trying to mine with a needle while others are mining with tractors. That is essentially a relic of the past. Good luck with that.

Guys, all your old hardware based on Spartan- can be programmed for altcoin mining.
