Title: Cryptocurrency Addresses Added to USA Sanctions List
Post by: steve_rogers on March 23, 2018, 11:00:40 AM
Today we knew that the American Office of the Control of Foreign Assets, began to create a base of unreliable crypto-currency wallets. This happened, incidentally immediately after the signing of President Trump's decree, to ban the Venezuelan crypto currency "el Petro", where other currencies were listed, BTC, ETH, LTC, NEO, XMR and XRP, whose wallets should be included in the sanctions lists. It is interesting, Trump's order prescribes the blocking of cryptowallets of persons under sanctions, as well as suspicious persons, or those wallets, where was noted the interaction with wallets being prohibited. But, how to do it technically is not explained, but in the case of one of XRP (Ripple) - it could be done really easily.
In addition, the US Office for the Control of Foreign Assets, will encourage citizens who will send numbers of suspicious purses, to include them in the database.

Honestly, I don't think that there is a possibility to block wallets, of real cryptocurrencies, but as far as they knew how to track the BTC transactions (with all your personal data), and we cannot avoid such kind of control, maybe in future they will gain the ability to lock the BTC/ETH wallets. Nevertheless it is one point plus to Dash and ZCash.
 Any thoughts?

The idea looks very interesting. It would be good if scam projects' wallets could be banned (though it's very unlikely possible). But USA and other countries will use this possibility to ban also sanctioned wallets (e.g. "el Petro"). So, the lack of anonymity can become a problem.

blocking one cryptocurrency and adding it to sanctions is not the same as blocking addresses to sanctions. you can ban one altcoin like banning Petro because it belongs to a certain country or you can ban an ICO or ICOs all at once but you can never ban a certain address because for most coins (since they are all based on bitcoin) address is something you only use once and change it next. you can't keep changing the address you sanctioned every time it changes and you never know who the next address (the receiver) belongs to.

Another example of the government's dullness with regard to technology. It seems that they even do not have consultants

I would not be so sure. Edward Snowden warns against using VPN when working with altcoins and bitcoins. VPN is a trap of FBI, NSA, CIA , through which they have long learned to identify the owners of wallets.

Prove is here (https://news.bitcoin.com/snowden-releases-nsa-documents-showing-bitcoin-1-priority/)

It turns out that if American residents own crypto-wallets, they also fall into the sanctions list? that is, they will apply sanctions against their citizens? it is interesting to look behind the developments further.
Cryptowallets are anonymous, how to track people owning a cryptocurrency?!

They were anonymous. Today only Dash and ZCash still provide full anonymity.

I wonder how are they going to execute such sanctions on crypto addresses. They would have to know the original "sanctioned" transaction to effectively prevent a receiver from using the address. Otherwise, "bad guys" will just change a cryptocurrency or, more simple, generate a new address.  ???

The United States will gradually add to its sanction list the whole world, the solar system and themselves at last. Every time the news from there seems more like a raving madman. I do not think that this will have any consequences for the crypto market. Everyone has become accustomed to the eccentricities of Trump and his administration.

It is impossible to happen because USA don't own or access with the blockchain of each coin. Wallet address cannot be block and itis clear that crytocurrency is a technology that even a government cannot interfere with the transaction. He can ban the whole blockchain but he cannot choose to block a specific address.

What? They don't control bitcoin or the eth network, they will never have the ability to lock btc or eth wallets.
Of course ripple can do it, it's a centralized piece of shit.

It is sad but inevitable that governments will do there best to lock down anything they deem a threat to their power claiming it is for your protection, maybe sometimes it will protect but the loss of freedom will be far greater in the end.

Yeah, at the moment it is impossible to control any blockchain network, if we are talking about locking wallets. But we are talking that ANS can know who masters the wallet, come to your home, kick your ass off, and you will provide them will all the necessary info.

And soon will appear a group of people that control more than 51% of mining power, that won´t be funny.
