5 days later, I have 0 merit. Unmerited by everyone that I neg. rated. Sounds like a great idea.

/thread.

Why are you giving false opinion. Already all the members are suffering from this bullshit merit system who offers all the control on the major ranked people. Do we are not the members of this forum. Some generous person are still trying to make a success of merit system. But there are some culprits who make the merit system a hell for new members.

Unmerit is a nice tool, that would kick merit abusers/sellers out from the server. But how do you expect "unmerit" button to work?

Like a report to moderator button? If so, then "report to moderator" will become useless, people will unmerit each and everyone for a slight disagreement with their opinion.

I wouldn't necessarily be against staff having it. Some threads really do deserve negative merit points especially for the workload they cause staff. Almost every day I trash another thread started asking what is bitcoin for you or when did you hear about bitcoin, and the countless stupid threads asking this or that or something vs the other and then there's all the what is merit and how do I rank up threads. People might think twice before creating the same old useless threads time after time if they're getting minus merit for them.

I would be happy to spend my own merit to de-merit other posts. VERY happy.

It's a nice idea, but still this will be even harder for the other newbies. And I think the possibility of this being abused is also high.

The first time I read it, I laughed. Seriously?
Well you're talking with high chance of posibility that many of those whom you've given neg trust  will do so, but I don't think it would be enough to demote you as a trusted manager or something. As far as I know the only people who has a grudge on you are those shitty newbies and people with a poor understanding.

I think we will just complicate the merit system with that one.

What are we doing here? Running the Facebook where people go water here there and just make likes and dislikes! I dont see any use of it and neither it will help establishing the main purpose of the merit system -> to give quality marks to quality posts and depending upon which ranking system is based. Having unmerit option will start chaos everywhere.

FYI : After unmerit option is implemented I am sure that 100's of threads will be created to ask "Why do we have unmerit system", "is it working", "I am getting huge numbers of unmerits and thats not fair" and much more questions like that and there we go, we have another spam trend started over.

Try and search this board and tell me how many demerit or unmerit has been suggested in the last 7 weeks. You should lose 1 merit for suggesting the same thing again.

I think demerits would be useful in certain circumstances,

Any post that gets deleted, even/especially if it is by the OP, should have any associated merits removed.

Reciprocal merit awarding should be removed

Merit selling should not be allowed, and any merit that is known to be purchased should be removed.

Should posts be deleted on a purchased account, and if this results in a drop in ranking, then the initial merit award should be reduced to reflect this drop.

Obviously this will result in some extra work for mods, and I suggest that one or two "merit masters" are recruited to handle the work load.

Even though you're supporting the OP,

Apologies for not making my opinion clear. I do not believe that a demerit button should be available for all members. I think that it should only be used by a selected merit "moderator".

Sure, that would be more aggressive approach towards shitposting. Also, not sure about the merits getting deleted with the post, if by that you mean that if you lose merits on a post in the thread that's deleted. Would suck because, thread lasting or not, post has deserved merit.

I thought about that, and when I first typed my post, I had written 'thread', I changed that to 'post' because I agree with you. However, if the post was deleted for some reason, then I believe that the associated merit should be removed for that post.

Yeah, that makes more sense. Since that very post could be the one that merit selling has occurred over. That's reasonable, but not removing merit from post if thread gets deleted. Kind of a diamond in the garbage situation.

You can change the name as Demerit bro. If we find the multiple replies with the same answer again and again or spam thread has been created means we can used for trashing them to avoid spamming.
Of there is a scam attempt thread we can use it. Most probably cloud mining and mining products selling site has promoted on service discussion section most of the time. If this comes I personally use that trash them. Good idea- conclusion

We could think of a system of weights:
For the user to lose 1 merit, he needs 20 negative points (for example) in a specific post (not in other of his posts)
Legendary and Heroes that give uMerit would have more weight than an FulMember or Member, Jr. Members and newbies not count.
Or the weight could be determined by the amount of merits that someone has.

Excelent idea, and also the moderators have less job

Unmerit can be both good and bad.

It will be good because:

1) It will help to fight against high rank members who got lucky with the merit system. Nod doubt the majority of high rank are responsible members but some are worse than new members in terms of content quality.

Unmerit will be bad because:

1) It will be abused by members for personal issues. If it is implemented, an unmerit should occur only when  a certain number of members perform this for a single post.
