Title: ‘I Don't Think Bitcoin Will Last Forever’: Edward Snowden!
Post by: SNob2017 on March 23, 2018, 03:06:30 PM
NSA whistleblower and privacy advocate Edward Snowden said that he believes Bitcoin will eventually be supplanted by another cryptocurrency that does not utilize a public ledger. (Interview with Peter Van Valkenburgh of Coin Center,  Blockstack Berlin 2018)

How do you think maybe he is right, that public blockchain of Bitcoin it's not so good for us, for our privacy??!

Many speculators says bitcoin will never last and will be replaced by another coin, they even mention how development of bitcoin far behind those altcoin that we have, but up to this moment bitcoin remain on the top and continue appreciating. I guess as much as there would be better coins than bitcoin, none of them can ever surpass it and can get the demand bitcoin has today.

nothing lasts forever - BItcoin will rule till some better concept replaces it, just like we replaced gold money with paper money, and we are on the way to replace paper money with Bitcoin. I'm sure that in 20 years there will either be very large transaction volume or no volume.

These are the words from the founder himself, Satoshi. The future of Bitcoin depends on the development and other aspects going around this technology. However, at this point I don't see any other coin having equal potential in terms of user base, trade volume and market environment. On the other hand, if any other coin is coming up with equal potential and growth assurance then people will definitely shift to that coin if they find it useful as compared to that of Bitcoin.

As we all know everything has it's end. But maybe since Bitcoin is not that old for people to know, it will still be available as long as more people patronize it. For me he is just making a fuzz to make investors panic and sell their stocks to make chances for the new investors to invest in a cheaper price.

Nothing really lasts forever and i do believe that Snowden has a point there because in the near future cryptos with better features are going to come and they may supplant Bitcoins very soon. That one is inevitable.

In my opinion, the right, but the next 1-2 years not a single brick will be able to do it, bitcoin will still be worth more than $ 50,000 but before that moment it will remain in the first place by capitalization

One thing is right. Bitcoin will change the world forever. I'm sure that the era of banks and governments controlling the value and exchange of assets is coming to a close.

Do you think any government would regulate something completely anonymous? this is something that will not happen so that the altcoins that are anonymous will be targets of attacks of the governments, bitcoin is fine and has a great future

As for Edward Snowden's opinion, he is entitled to his opinion as we all have a right to our opinion, but I disagree with his opinion, he is defender of altcoins that are completely anonymous.

I didn't understand. That Edward Snowden is a great authority in the world of cryptocurrency? Lol. He collects information and sells it profitably. Banal paparazzi. Who might be interested in his opinion. With the same success you can listen to fortune-teller predictions. She's even more arguments will tell you what you want to hear from her.

If you are deeply privacy concerned then using altcoin that is completely anonymous is best option. While Bitcoin is not completely anonymous, But it server the purpose. With various techniques you can make Bitcoin transactions a bit more anonymous. Governments don't like fully anonymous alternatives coins and will likely restrict users from obtaining or using it in near future.

It is obvious that he will like a more privacy orientated coin to be the leader of the market of cryptocurrencies and as we know bitcoin is not anonymous all your information is there for the public to see but the main problem of why implementing anonymity is not possible in bitcoin is because it will slow down everything even more, the scaling issues will get bigger so it makes sense that we have niche coins instead to be used for those that want 100% anonymity.

Nothing will last forever, change is a part of our nature and the natural progression of our race and society. I don't see BTC having a lifespan of more than 100 years and even that is being generous. There will be too much technological advantage for it to remain relevant.

Thank you guys for your opinion. Actually, I haven't a doubt in Bitcoin, I really think that he will change future, future without tyranny and oppression of the government and financial institutions. But I agree with Edward Snowden that all people who use bitcoin will attract the attention of government, FBI etc. So the question was about our safety and privacy before authorities?!

Bitcoin seems to lose its best features now. Lots of problems are arising with its system and illegal things can be made with bitcoin its not surprising to know his opinion about bitcoins.
With the all new ICOs arising and better features bitcoin might get left behind even if it is the first coin to be made.

From 2018 their are few things which are gone against the btc and thus we can see the impact on the price of btc. But yes for next 5 years we can see btc to be sustainable unless all countries come together and place a ban on this virtual currencies. Will it last forever might be a too early at this point to say.

Bitcoin is supported by many and if that many will pursue and create organizations then trading among their link businesses using bitcoin will keep it alive.

I doubt bitcoin will last forever, just like cash wont. Bitcoin possibly will be overtaken by something at some point but there will always be uses for several alternatives. All cash will end up going digital or likely utilize blockchains of some sort, but won't be decentralized and will still be issued by central banks etc, but that means there will always be a need or use for a decentralized alternative outside of the mainstream banking institutions for people to use. I'm sure there will be coins that offer better privacy that might suit certain people and also criminals, and others that have other benefits of fill certain niches. I think it's healthy to have competition and several coins where the free-market can decide which is the best one.

So what will be the other option then? Private ledger? Will people actually find it easy to trust that one than the public ledger?
I agree with him the bitcoin will eventually be replaced but I don't think it will be due to this public ledger thing, because that is what is keeping it transparent and decentralized which is why people are actually using it.

I don't know what kind of technology will replace the blockchain in the future because I thought blockchain technology is already very powerful and secure.

He probably is all about the agencies and their interference and since he brought the news about NSA monitoring transactions he is following this into: they will in time create a user database that will connect each coin to its former user and through that possibly to the new user (in case of a cash transaction). This is what they want. To track BTC - cash trades and stop deep web marketplaces. If you are able to track the previous holder of the coin, you can interrogate and intimidate him to tell what he bough and from whom.

Personally, I do not think so, because the crypto-currencies with closed code and hidden transactions, the states will not accept under any circumstances, hence theon can not be generally accepted.

in general saying, there is nothing lasts forever. but for how long ?!
it depends on how blockchain develop its self. this technology is now leading for this generation and still grows. still no sign that other technologies are going to take over it. I think that public attribute of blockchain gives safety for users by its anonymous feature. and also the decentralized feature on bitcoin is a big reason why people has enthusiast on using it.

I wonder why so many people assume that bitcoin will sink and be replaced by another crypto. Bitcoin is the first crypto to emerge in the world, its reputation is very good for long-term investing and until now bitcoin is still the parent for the determination of price movements from other coins so I think it is very difficult for other coins to replace bitcoin although the possibility is still possible at other times provided that the coin can offer more advantages than bitcoin.

not everything is forever and bitcoin is not out of this saying. What I do believe is that the impact that btc has created in both technological and economic development has been incredible, so for me it is a currency that is still in full swing and that still has a way to go, as well as other altcoins that in these moments they are under the shadow of btc.

I do tend to agree with his general point, that bitcoin could become redundant especially if it does not pay attention to fulfilling that privacy role. However, it is also important to consider that it would be fairly easy to implement some kind of second layer solution that ads privacy.

There will certainly be a better version of the blockchain and Bitcoin in the near future. Things rapidly improve and change. So definitely there's something that will surpass Bitcoin in the next few or hundred years. Who knows?
