Read through this thread for a detailed history of the Avalon units and how they operate:

Keep in mind that the units use 600 watts.  Depending on where you live this can be expensive compared to the amount of BTC they can generate.

I just got one, it's using free power and I have to admit it is built like a damn tank. I am still messing with it but overall I have to admit it is a very nice unit.

Why don't you just cloud mind instead?  These things are going for 1,000 to 1,400 USD on ebay which is pretty expensive.
Why buy from eBay? They are available for 4 BTC now direct from the Avalon Store which includes DHL shipping from China. Buying from eBay would save you at most a couple of days.

Actually, even for 4 BTC, it can't ROI. For next 10 days it will make you about 0.08 BTC per day, and if everything goes like before 0.05 the 10 days after that. If you do the calculation and substract the power it uses, it will never pay for self.

it will if bitcoin goes to $1000  but I suppose you could have just purchased 4 bitcoin and made  a whole lot more (but you wouldn't have the privilege of owning a piece of history.......)

Actually my unit came with an Evermax 850W GOLD PSU. So the 600 watt figure may not apply to ever Mini out there. :)

Regardless if you calculate the power or not it will never pay for itself with the way the difficulty is going up!

I would hold off if I was you. The way mining is going with the difficulty going up by 40% every 10 to 15 days, currently you need just over 1TH/s to produce 1BTC a day. I going to bet if the difficulty keeps going up this quickly that in the next 8 to 12 months we may see the requirement for 1BTC get close to 1PH/s.
