The general public can create a free account without an actual email address.  No issue here.

You actually need to be a member in order to see the investigations sub. reference (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1576015.0).

I'm able to view it despite being a newbie, is it due to the whole Copper Member privilege?

Likely yes, I can't access the link using my newbie alt (nc50Ic (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1757644)).
Lurkers can't just sign-up in order to read the topics in that board.

@cunicula When you're not logged in, you are not "You", you're a guest.
Someone who isn't acquainted to the site and its members should not be permitted to participate in a board that discuss their reputation.

Probably yes. Copper membership gives you some of the member rank privileges, but I'm not sure if theymos intentionally allowing Copper member to access investigation board though.

- Some of the same permissions as Member-rank members, such as reduced signature styling restrictions. (But none of the PM-related restrictions are currently lifted, such as the style limit or per-hour PM limit.)

That is not the proper answer to question.

I'm having a bit of a guess here but I think it might be to stop search engines and archive sites crawling it.
