Title: What You Need to Do Before Choosing a Tipster
Post by: SyGambler on March 25, 2018, 07:38:09 PM
hello guys , so recently I got some questions about how to spot good tipsters and how to know if this service is good or not so decided to open a topic here with some headlines of the things that you should research a little before buying paid picks

1- Check the tipster or the site's record
before even considering buying you need to see some stats and graphs for the tipster , we all saw how many calimed that they have 80% win rate with crazy ROI
well all of the above are just words without proof , so you need to research more about them and see people's experiences in the forums
some sites offer full stats and records that are tracked by a 3rd party site , you need to stick to these cause with no proof that the tipster  actually had a profitable run in the past then most likely you will be wasting your money and bankroll

2- do some calculates to see if the price suits you
this is a main concept too , cause let's face it we all don't have that much spare money or sometimes even if the tipster is profitable you may end up losing since maybe you are paying him more than what you are actually winning following his picks
to do that try to not pay over 5 units of your betting bankroll to a monthly subscription

3- ask more about the betting volume
the volume of the picks is so crucial , for example imagine paying 200$ a month for a tipster that has a proven 10% ROI , but then you found out that this tipster only gives one pick or two every week , you may end up spending more than what your bankroll afford
so even if the tipster is profitable he may not suit you
another example : a tipster with 3% ROI that averages 5 picks a day is way better than a tipster that has 10% ROI with 2-3 picks a week

4- ask them for a proof of odds
sportsbetting and gambling in general mainly depend on the odds , that will determine how the gamblers will do in the long run
we can all claim that we are profitable if we can fake the odds , imagine the tipster telling you to pick a team with X1.9 odds then you keep searching for that price and end up finding X1.8 top , well if the tipster pick was won then the pick will has 10% more profit
so by faking the odds a losing tipster may be seen as a profitable tipster

so always choose a site that post the source of the odds

5- Be ready to create many sportsbetting accounts
if you are not shopping for the best odds then you are missing a huge value in the long run , each 1% and each 1 cent count in the long run
so if you want to profit the most you should have access to many sports providers and this can be a little easier when you have an account with a sports broker

I guess these are the main points to consider , if you have any question feel free to leave a comment here

good luck all

Thanks for listing this tips which is really true most of the time.Having these kind of considerations would really be good for us to avoid on such useless act.Instead on making money we would might end up on losing because of the fees that is being charged thats why im not really engaged too much on paid service. Most probable step for me is on following those free ones with a good track record.

Talking to this one:

You should really be ready on this because having accessibility is always been an important thing.

Thanks for posting this good guide, I know a lot of my friends are gamblers, they are always searching for some applications or some site that give them free tips on sports betting and sometimes it's premium, They are not smart enough to know that the seller is just a scam. I always tell them, there is no fixed match or anything like that. Every gambler should refer to a lot of tipster sites and use your brain to choose and don't follow anyone.

no don't get me wrong , there are actually some good tipsters who offer a reasonable price and they are indeed giving profitable tips
but the majority of the sites are just not good or the pricing is ridiculous
if you do some research you should be able to find good ones and spend your money on a good investment

Thanks for this. I follow tipsters pretty much randomly, as eventually I tend to follow my own judgments (okay, maybe instincts haha) when betting on sports but I have spent time following some tipsters, if only because their statistics interest me. Trying to learn or spot common traits among winning tipsters don't really work, especially as most tipsters don't accompany their tips with analysis (and those who do like on ESPN, aren't very good at winning!).

I would add that profit %s are quite useless since it depends on systems they use to make bets. I like those sites that track all tips and automatically update statistics, by way of stakes... which allows you to see average wager sizes, and risks, so you can tell those who make consistently good calls with consistently sized wagers. This weeds out those who like to "gamble" on a big stake doubler to make up for many bad calls.

@SyGambler. Good advice, thank you. Can you also give us a tip of who you reckon are the best tipsters to follow in the forum? There are so many of them, and it's so hard to choose because they are all winners like the traders in the speculation subforum hehehe.

Well, to be fair, BTC prices are constantly growing so on average it's extremely easy to be profitable.
It's different with betting since there isn't an asset constantly growing in value.
Many tipsters that have a positive track for a long period have some good skills.

Just as you choose a site that provides this online betting game, you also have to apply the same so as to be able to find the best and will never disappoint you at all. Do not let your case of fraud due to wrong choosing a pointer because if many trusted tipster, then more and more agents are also not trusted and just want to get big profits from yourself.

to be honese I haven't got involved much with tipsters in this forum , the majority of tipsters here aren't posting how much they are up or down with their picks which is always a shady thing to do since it mainly means they are hiding something
but personally I'm involved with some tipsters outside bitcointalk and I'm paying them some money monthly for their service , you can check my progress in my following thread since I'm tracking every single pick that I follow for them

Great guide OP, I personally agree that knowing those guidelines first before starting to pick a good tipster will do. The guide is very helpful, and if we just
follow the guide and take each factor seriously for us to have better option. Tipsters are also considered according to their stats and how they perform with their respected fields. Again OP, thank you for providing this thread and hope more people will start reading the guide.

The most important point for me is point number 2. If the tipster service fit with my budget, I will then do the analysis on other points that I think are not less important. Checking the history of a tipster is a must for me.

great thing you share this helpful info , people usually make a guide like this in general . but i see this one more specific. i was used bet adviser long time ago here in the forum , i have got a lot of nice odds with him and wonderful winning, too bad as time goes by everything changed he seems throw everything randomly , that is my experience when i do following strange random tipster in this forum , the track record will never enough qualified as a pro tipster.

so yes i vouch better to look for a member who have reputation already outside the forum and offering the service here.

checking and taking into account the budget for gambling and the risks we might get is a necessity, buying a tipster is the best move because it gives us a bigger chance of winning the bet. certainly no less important to check the history, whether the price is given a decent tipster we take when looking at history good or bad tipster he gave

thanks for your words , yeah the tipsters I follow have reasoable price and tracked results by 3rd party software
IDK there may be some good tipsters here but wasn't contacted by any of them , I liked some stats for 2 tipsters here but the price they take is so crazy to take so decided to not purchase any other subscription for now since the one I follow already are good
with the coming days I may contact some of them here if they lower their prices and they start to provide full record of how they did in the past

and I actually hope the community here  will help with that , you can see that there are tons of tipsters threads and if we all start demanding the tipsters to track their results this will be way better for all of us ( tipster and customers )
sadly the tipsters that track their results here are mostly new tipsters and they have small record to judge

I enjoyed reading your thread and you make a lot of sense, but I didn't understood a few things, specially on point 3 and 4.

When you are talking about ROI%, I'm assuming your talking about it's overall profit, at least that's how I usually use ROI%. So if a punter has 10% overall profit, it shouldn't matter if he makes more or less bets than a punter making 3% overall profit. Assuming he manages to keep his record, and you follow every tip, then you would be better with the one having 10%, even though he only bet on 2 or 3 games a week.

Seeing ROI% the way I do, I guess that point 4 would not be very important as well. Again, I'm assuming someone would be following every bet offered by the tipster. Some would have high odds, other would have low odds, but in the end he would get those %10 average profit.

Another thing I would find important, would be a trial offering.

hey Fruegaurds , ROI is Return on Investment so when you follow picks for a tipster that has 5% ROI for example you will be expecting to make 0.05 unit everytime you bet
but the volume is so important , so if a tipster has 10% ROI that doesn't mean that he is a better investment than a tipster with 3% ROI

let's take an example , if a tipster with 10% ROI gives 2picks a week and you are betting 100$ on each match you are expecting to make 20 dollars a week
while if another tipster with 3% ROI gives out 5 picks a day you would be making 3 dollars on each match so in a whole week you would make 105$
so the 2nd tipster made you more money since he has a high volume
it's just to clear a point that you should look to both ROI and volume and the higher the volume the better value you get

point 4 is important too , if the tipster is giving higher odds than the available odds then he is lying about his profit and he may not even be profitable
another example : let's say that a tipster gave out 100 handicap picks where he told his followers that the odds for these picks are X2.00
but the followers tried to find these odds for the picks and ended only finding X1.95
let's say the 50 of the picks won and 50 lost , the odds that tipster gave would break even but his followers lost money
on papers the tipster publicly is  a break even tipster but in practice he is a loser
so if you see that example you can find that some tipsters may say that they have 3% ROI , but since they are faking the odds they may turn out to be loser tipsters

about the trial for sure it's good when it's available , but the most sites that I saw so far don't offer trial

Post by: FrueGreads on March 31, 2018, 11:15:21 AM
@SyGambler ok I get it now. We were using different time frames for ROI%. I was considering that percentage to be the overall return of investment of all of the tipster bets on a given time frame (either an average of 10% a week, or 10% a month etc). So from this point of view it wouldn't matter the number of picks offered, because we would be getting the same profit overall.
Of course that if you are considering the ROI% of every single tip, then I totally agree with you, and volume of bets matters a lot.

As for the odds, your example makes perfect sense. Again, I was still focused on overall ROI% so the odds wouldn't matter if the service was offered this way. But I guess you are correct and some tipsters might be saying their bets are made at a certain price, but in reality, the user getting the service never gets the price the tipster claims to be offering.

I never used tipping services, so I thought they offered a more simple way to track their progress (like an overall ROI% of their entire punter career, and an overall ROI% of the time frame of their service, like on a monthly basis, or weekly basis, etc.)

Again, nice thread and your points make perfect sense.

Hope this would also be an alternative in choosing the BEST tipster out of a list of tipsters:

6. Ask them to give/accept a challenge from a tipster of their level
To testify the skills of a tipster, it is necessary for us to put them under the rules of probation and ask them to compete with someone already having a good (or even better) track records than them. As it is our money we will be betting with, and even paying a higher fee to such tipsters, we do have the right to see if they are actually the ones we should rely upon, and whether they really deserve our money or not? Choosing a tipster is a very arduous task and we need to have all odds on our side and see if the tipster we trust - makes it through their years of experience, hard work and research or not against whom they compete.

This is a good idea but I don't think it would ever work as tipsters would have a lot of pressure on them. I remember the direcbet betting competition, and only Joca was a regular tipster there, and even then he would usually have a very "aggressive" approach and didn't made his regular bets there. The prizes were pretty good actually, so there was an incentive, but they just prefer to play it safe and avoid confrontation.

well no I don't think so , as long as you have the records for both tipsters there is no need to make them compete against others
I mean if you already have the info about them and you have the records you can use your judgments to choose between them , at the end there is no one forcing you to subscribe for a certain tipster

I really think it's not necessary to ask everything if you already have his track record, that level of doubt is beyond if you want to ask more for a tipster unless you double the payment. Some tipsters are good but you better have to do your own work instead, having a good track record for a tipster is enough to trust them.

Checking for each tipsters' track records is what came to my mind as well, mate. But, I thought that each tipster is good in few genres, and if not - their sub-genres. So, let's say that tipster A asks for $500 as a fee for his 1 month tips for English Premier League and tipster B charges $290 for Serie A matches' tips per month. What I'm trying to convey here is: ask both of these tipsters to get out of their genre and take the challenge and let tipster B give some bets for English Premier League matches as well tipster A should give tips on Serie A matches. I know I'll be criticized over my thinking, but I believe that their skills should be tested at extreme levels to check whether they really deserve our money or not? As it's not just the money that we'll be giving to them, it's about the money that we'll be betting with in order to gain better ROI back (what we gave them) and make good profits.

@Oceat,
I believe that when it comes to money, we always go beyond limits to keep our end safe.

tipster is not a god, tipster is also the same as us humans. sometimes they can be true or even miss. professional tipster working on the basis of data and analysis, they have complete data. even they rarely sleep just to ensure the outcome of the match.
6. Choose who already has a big name in the world of gambling soccer
7. Tips can be tested directly
I think if the good tipster they can give a demo for us who are looking for a qualified tipster.

well yeah tipster isn't a god , but since you are paying for the service you should expect him to do way better than the average gamblers
demos are always nice , but to be honest you can't judge a tipster by a demo cause most demos are between one day and a week and this is really a short period to judge
a demo is good just to get used with the service , like to know at what time usually the tipster posts the picks

Demo and test outs is the common thing on where gamblers or bettors do always seek out before trusting a certain tipster. Most of tipsters do give demo either 1-2 picks depending into their own choice which is somehow hard to entrust to follow or paid up on such service.Checking out history and winning chances is crucial and even though other people do rather made bets on their own but still there are bettors which do rely on tipsters and as you said they are much better than on a typical gambler.

Must be a great guide you have come with. But the problems is paid reviews and fake/rigged previous records. Yes, when we want to cross check a tipster's performance, we need to subscribe their services at least of one month if they do not have trail kind of things. Just listening to reviews by existing clients or the performance records produced by the houses and any other things similar to these should not be considered as most of them are fake with most of the prediction houses.

Demo and test outs is the common thing on where gamblers or bettors do always seek out before trusting a certain tipster. Most of tipsters do give demo either 1-2 picks depending into their own choice which is somehow hard to entrust to follow or paid up on such service.Checking out history and winning chances is crucial and even though other people do rather made bets on their own but still there are bettors which do rely on tipsters and as you said they are much better than on a typical gambler.

not really , the past verified record is what you need to look for since trial can't give you enough info except the time when the tipster posts his picks
let's say the tipster gives you 3 free picks and they all lost , can you judge his performance from these picks ?? of course no since trial only focus on the very short run

Must be a great guide you have come with. But the problems is paid reviews and fake/rigged previous records. Yes, when we want to cross check a tipster's performance, we need to subscribe their services at least of one month if they do not have trail kind of things. Just listening to reviews by existing clients or the performance records produced by the houses and any other things similar to these should not be considered as most of them are fake with most of the prediction houses.

that's why it's important to buy only picks with verified past records , I do have a thread that tracks tipsters results that I bought their subscription you can check it out here

I would like to add your points make total sense and i got an idea of what you are trying to say but i feel it is completely unecessary to even pay the tipster there is no way that a person doesn't know anything about all the sports in the world what he can do is specialise in that sport he loves to watch and casual start betting based on your experience or just search online so many people provide tips for free which do work

There are also good tipsters out there that provide good, quality tips. Tipsters offer a legitimate service that should be paid. A good tipster puts effort into his/her work, and these people should be paid.

Some tipsters have years of prediction experience, and gaining prediction experience yourself can be time-consumimg. It's entirely possible to learn to predict yourself, but if you're not willing to do so, buying a subscription from a tipster is a convenient and easy way to make picks.

man seriously ?? why you won't pay a profitable tipster who actually put in time to analyze the games ??
you and me are getting paid from signatures for doing something that we will anyway do , so why a tipster shouldn't be rewarded for his time ??
in order to keep up to date with the games you need to stick to the screen and keep watching the news and the markets

it's not an easy job

These websites have good tips, but you need to consume a lot of accounts.
These websites may be the best on the Internet, but some of the top reminders do not send any hints on the Internet.

good resources indeed , the point of the thread isn't to mention certain resources but it's just to make some people more informed in case they want to start betting with tipsters
sadly there are many tipsters in the forums here that offer their picks for crazy price without even having value or a profitable record
that's why I created this thread in the first place
