Title: Taxation on vices Post by: Pumapipa on March 26, 2018, 02:30:30 AM In the Philippines, there is what we call the SIN TAX LAW wherein products linked to vices like tobacco, alcoholic beverages, sugary drinks and salty products like junk foods are taxed higher than any other products to discourage purple from buying them and switching to healthier alternatives instead.
Any thoughts on these? Any thoughts on these? I don't watch the local news often but I believe the tax on sweetened products are different from the sin tax, which mostly for tobacco and liquor. The funny thing is if that you put additional tax on sugar and salt and products that have lots of those, you would still hurt someone. Tax sodas and coffee/cocoa mixes, you hurt the cane farmers. Tax instant noodles, you hurt the people who have no choice but to eat those (yes, there are people who survive only through instant noodles and eggs). |
