Title: Moving Miners. Cool or not cool?
Post by: markair on March 26, 2018, 11:25:52 AM
Any experience moving ASICs from one row to another?

The new location will lower the temperature of any miner that's moved there. Not massively, but there will be a difference. I don't wanna just turn them off and leave them in situ because there are other machines still on in that lane. The miners in question would no longer benefit from being cooled by their own fans if they're off. They'd likely heat up. So that's not an option. With that being the case, any suggestions on the best way to move them?

I could stop them hashing for X amount of time so the internal temperature drops? Then power them off, move to the new location, and restart.

Or power down, move, cool for X amount of time, and restart?

Or simply power down, move, and instantly restart?

The move isn't far. But I'm aware of machines that have seemingly failed when relocated. So, just wondering if there's anything tried and tested? Anything you'd recommend?

Thanks.

Just power them down, move them, and power them back up. Other than letting them cool a bit so you dont burn yourself moving them, there really is nothing special that needs to be done.
