Do I really need anti-virus to prevent it ? Wallet i using - Exodus for bitcoin . Ledger Nano S for ETH + ENJ coin. Any advice on keeping my PC + laptop + my coin safe ? ;D ;D ----- Will try to reply all comment that I get from you guys , thanks for viewing my thread . Appreciate it. The point is: if you use windows, well, you will need to be careful about which programs are you downloading into your computer. Also, do make a backup from your wallet, you can print a QR code and keep it in someplace safe.
To me, the idoneous move is to have my wallet in a computer I don't really use very much and to conserve this computer offline as much as possible. On my wallet-computer (as I call it) I never download any stuff but the core, and never watch online movies, use torrent & co. Also, your password needs to be strong enough and you should never share it, except to one trusted person, I don't know, maybe your woman, mother... someone, for in case you forget or something happens to you someone will be able of recovering the data. This is what I do. But It doesn't mean that's the only or the best way, it is just that works for me. That way if your wallet gets stolen you can still recover your funds.
The same goes for your 2 factor authentication seeds. Make sure you use 2FA everywhere, I have my seeds stored on handwritten paper with a backup copy at my parents house. Concerning anti-virus, a small explanation here. Anti-virus is not necessary to keep your coins safe as in your coins being hacked, coins cannot be hacked from your wallet. But if you have a virus on your PC that keylogs your mnemonic phrase or wallet password, then your coins could be stolen. Same goes for a virus that captures your screen and snapshots the mnemonic phrase while you create your wallet. That is why anti-virus is important, to prevent the "access data" (mnemonic phrase, password, private key) to your coins from getting stolen. Your coins themselves cannot be stolen by a virus, only this "access data". But as said with the data gone then your coins are at risk. Hope to have this cleared up a bit for you :) Title: Re: Crypto Begineer - Need some advice Post by: paiinfo on March 26, 2018, 08:06:07 PM This topic entitled "Trust No One" gives a good description of how to not lose your coins : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=33835.0 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=33835.0). If you don't want to read through that whole topic, the title is a nice summary of the content.
