The main issue would be they overheat and start on fire.

I agree with previous poster, no more than 2 per chain and 1 if possible.

Remember on a Sata connector there is only a single 20-18 AWG wire actually providing 12v. You should do what the person I quoted said and just run 2 per cable run. I have hundreds of miners runnning 2 per with no issues whatsoever, if you bump that up to 3 you will eventually have fires/failures/sadness of some sort.

Melted connector, short circuit, fire etc :)  Only 1 sata riser on each cable.

Buy risers with gpu/pcie molex connector or what it’s called. Add second power supply with breakout board (with 12v in so both start at same time. Cable riser and gpu with separate cables from psu. Riser and gpu must always get power from the same psu. Go pro and safe. Don’t cheap out.

Going to have to confirm the no. I did it without much thought or foresight - melted the end of the sata cable that went into my PSU - so the cable and the port on the PSU are now no longer usable. I got lucky that's all that happened.

Meh. Been running 4 Sata risers per PSU cable for months now. No problems.

8 GPUs (Rx 500)
8 V006c risers
8 SATA to 6-pin adapters
2 PSU SATA chains (4 per)
1 1200w plat PSU with metal barrel connectors

It’s fine.

Hello
I will say that everything depends on the model of graphics card that you use.
model of graphics card which bottom heated cables sata riser
example ASUS RX580 8GO DUAL OC background heating but cable sata until power supply.

Judging from my experience, the sata cable that is melted or burned is always the sata cable from the riser. So it would be fine to put 3 riser on a single sata Line (single rail PSU), if you have a good quality sata cable for a riser such as built-in sata cable from PSU (Original 18AWG Cable with a better socket).

I had a sata cable burn up with only 2 risers connected on an older cooler master M2 1000w

all depends on the power draw and the quality of the cables, that one lasted a few months before letting the factory smoke out

max 1 riser per sata cable.

Why? because risers can use up to 75W. But a cable of SATA can only provide up to 56W more or less.

If you have normal cards, one riser per sata cable is just fine. two i wouldn't recomend it (the cable will get hot, really hot). If you have RX VEGA or 1080 or 1080ti mining with overclock, than SATA cable is a no go.

so it is safe 3 risers??? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Even 1 or 2 cards on sata cable can burn it, depends on model, for rx x70/x80 it's ok, but R9 390 or 1080ti easily can melt connector or wires. And don't use adapter included w/ riser package

Clearly not. SATA cables use only a single +12V wire when PCIe cables use 3 of them

Safety first... and good usage of the different cables over quick setup for mining. That would be my best advise. If you use 3 risers on a SATA cable then most likely you will have some serious trouble

We do not recommend to use SATA or Molex cables to power risers as they are not made for this. Better if you can power your riser with PCIe cables. After if you really wish to use SATA/Molex cable, then it's one per cable

i have this idea i will use this

https://www.amazon.co.uk/MagiDeal-4-Pin-Express-Female-Adapter-Black/dp/B00Z9CC98A

and use the 3 Molex cable what do you think

this way 4 risers 1 to 1  sata

and 3 risers 1 to 1  molex

But I’m running 4 on a single SATA cable and nothing is melted or fried. Soooooo *mic drop*

How long have you been running it that way?  I originally setup one of my rigs that way and had no issues but then read everyone elses stuff catching on fire so changes to 2 per chain.

Thanks

Nice.  I'm doing 2 per and haven't had any issues, no heat from them, etc so not worried about it I guess.  (rx 480, 580's)

Over 3 months now. Running 24/7
