Title: PCI Extension cables not available anywhere?
Post by: bran987 on July 26, 2011, 03:18:14 PM
I went to everywhere in Dallas, TX nobody has even heard of t hem.  I ordered some off of Ebay but they are tiny and don't fit.  Where can I purchase PCI Extension cables compatible with Radeon 6950's?
Thank you...

What do mean "they are tiny"? You probably have x1 --> x1 connectors, and if so, they can be made to fit your cards, but you have to cut the end of the female connector so it doesn't block the male end of the video card. You need to be careful about this so that you don't damage the plug while cutting it, and you only want to cut enough off to eliminate the interference. I made a lame little pic below trying to explain what you need to do.

[___] <--- shave/cut this end off

----> end of video card that would point towards the front of a case.

Otherwise, you can get x1 --> x16 connectors that don't require cutting.

Pretty sure that isn't what bran is talking about. Rather, this:

That's a 1x to 1x extender.

1x to 16x extender cable, with extra power connector (https://cablesaurus.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=28&zenid=d95110f46993569d5dc9e06cec37ae35)

That's the 1x to 16x cable:

You can see, that it has 1 end which ain't closed, to be able to put in longer cards then 1x...

You mean RISER cards or cables, not EXTENSION.

That's what I thought, and you can make this work by cutting the end as I explained. If you don't want to do this, then you will have to buy a x1 --> x16 riser.
