Problems in the Current Connected Car Ecosystem

Data Ownership - Vehicle and driving data can be used to derive insights about people’s lifestyle and preferences and is therefore invaluable. Without advanced data encryption and strict authorization, there is a huge potential threat to people’s personal privacy and safety.

Data Collection & Accuracy - The majority of vehicle purchases worldwide are not new vehicles. In fact, the average car on the road in the U.S. is 11.5 years old. This means it will take many years before the majority of vehicles on the road come standard with accurate and embedded data sensors, leaving the current solutions for collecting, transferring, and storing vehicle data inefficient and inadequate.

Data Exchange - The rights to use and distribute data should belong to the person who contributes the data. Currently, the data drivers generate often does not belong to them. For instance, the navigation software knows where we are going and pushes relevant ads. This is precisely why the connected car industry has made little progress; users are not motivated to provide relevant data without proper incentives.

Application Infrastructure - While there is vehicle data available to small companies, the data is extremely scattered and insufficient in scale to provide any significant value for building transportation applications. The viability of connected car applications ultimately relies on an infrastructure that can support the safe and automated circulation of massive amounts of vehicle data.

CarBlock's Solutions

The ownership and interest of all data should belong to the data provider, in most circumstances, the car owner. This is where the regulations are headed; car owners are the foundation of CarBlock’s ecosystem and serve as the link between business and data.

Automatic data collection via smart devices. Data is automatically collected by the connected hardware and then digitally encrypted and logged in the CarBlock blockchain.

CarBlock will not profit as the middleman in the data marketplace. CarBlock will ensure the free circulation of data and decrease the friction during this process. 1. The technology plan of CarBlock, V4.0 has been completed. Along with the previous plan of Dapp realization within the realm of automobile industry, CarBlock will expand business scope into the protocol layer to unify the standards and interfaces of Dapp and will serve to all the applications in the ecosystem of automobile and transportation industry.
Meanwhile, the new version of CarBlock Whitepaper has been completed and will be issued soon.

In order to adapt to the China and Asia market, the second hardware of Carblock, nonda 3G OBD smart automobile health monitor has already completed the sample producing and is currently undergoing the Alpha phase. Meanwhile, 30 community volunteers will be participated in the Alpha phase. 3G OBD will be distributed to them next week for testing.

Being the most important solution of collecting driving data in the aftermarket, 3G OBD will be the key hardware to support CarBlock ecosystem, and provide complete and immediate driving data to those who need, including whole car factories, insurance companies, vehicle maintenance service providers and the transportation department. The communication was conducted in a kind and friendly way with Chang Liu, the director of the Big Data leading office of Xiqing government and the Industry and Information Committee of Xiqing District; Pengchao Zhao, the project manager of CATARC and the engineer Xin Hu, and reached a consensus on the normalization and future plan of automobile data use.
