Bitcoin Forum

The marketplace is becoming a vibrant place but yet the forum is not made for operating as a market bazaar.

I would like to propose a few features:

1. Jobs, offers feature filter. Simply put, being able to views all the jobs and offers being advertised on the forum and hide miscellaneous forum topic.

2. Reputation system relating to selling and buying things.

3. A way to post and track specialized forum topics like jobs and offers.

Maybe having some other site specialise in such things could be useful, and might please those people who would just as soon not see job X or product Y advertised here at all...

But the forum IS the epic-center of the bitcoin economy.

Nobody cares about visiting some other site to post their job offers. They all have a very tiny fraction of the traffic in the bitcoin economy.

About forum improvements:

I'd love to be able to track responses for given thread (for example with e-mail notification). It's kind of a common forum feature, and with amount of posts that are here daily, it seems really useful for somebody who does not have time to track all threads.

Maybe it is better / more convenient for people who are against nuclear proliferation to be able to find all the offers relevant to their bias (and involving bitcoins) right here instead of having to wonder where else it might be happening that they don't even know to look for it at?

That's a good idea.

What about advertisements?

The forum could make some btc with a few advertisements that are paid for in btc. This is where the bitcoin community meet, it is the ideal venue for advertising for bitcoin related services and paying for the advertisements in bitcoin.

A feed of latest posts so I don't have to open 8+ subforums on every visit.

Just click the show unread posts link at the top after logging in.

email notifications is work or not?

A proposal: rename the marketplace to Agora.

Honestly I'm only really missing a few core features I've seen in all other SMF forums, namely notifications for new private messages and a "New Posts" icon next to each thread that brings you to the first unread post in the thread.  The second one is especially annoying for large threads where I first have to guess which page I last left off on, then find the last post I remember reading. 

After you click "Show unread posts since last visit" there is a "New" icon that brings you to the first unread post in each thread.

It would be cool if people could earn sub-cents for their posts.

Hm, alright well that's a start.  I guess I'm just used to having that button show up when browsing the forums individually.  Personal preference in viewing styles I guess.

I would like more feedback on how user generated categories should be handled, either at witcoin.com (http://meta.witcoin.com/p/56/user-generated-categories) or here.

Primarily, how should a category be fairly managed by one or more individuals so that other users do not recognize those users profiting at the expense of other users without deserving it?

I see a reputation next to every avatar.  Is this new?  How do I change it?

And that's the major problem bitcoin has now. Only a couple websites that are the market...

I know buying and selling seem like a reasonable way to decide a marketplace, but I for one am never in a buying or selling mood, so I always open both. But it would be helpful if it was broken like jobs, physical goods, virtual goods, services. Or something like that. I know Kiba just did a lot of work, I'd help rearrange, or we could leave threads where they are and let new posts go in the categories and not worry about old ones.

When the forum traffic become overwhelming again, it will be a good time to consider further divisions of the marketplace forum.

As it stand, the marketplace is now more manageable.

I think a stickied self-intro thread in the discussions section would be good.

I have several things enabled that should make the forum send me emails. I have not received any.

I've sub'd to posts and have rec'd emails when a new post comes in, but I've missed quite a bit of PM's simply b/c there isnt an email notification sent out.
That would be my only item on a forum wish list.
-That and a non bias/abused rep system but I doubt thats possible on the interwebs  :'(

I like the idea of people putting job offers up for BTC transfers. That would take some trial and error though and I'm unsure about scamming issues. As far as the field of jobs, I think that the Bitcoin community as a whole is able to use their technical knowledge in their life to help others on this board for a few coins.

I'd love to see mobile version of the forum. Recently I browse more on my phone than on a computer.

Not sure if this is the best place to post it or not but I would like to say thanks for the new watch feature & request that the also great new BTC button not seem to be like it's in bold or is that unavoidable, many thanks

PM from theymos today, I mentioned it in passing while PMing about something else yesterday:

"I don't know how to make it not look bold. I just traced Satoshi's logo in FontForge, and this was the result. I don't know anything about making fonts."

So it seems that he would have np about it being less bold if ppl would prefer that & if anyone knows how to do it, thanks for any input/suggestions on this.
