Title: Starting off ($3000) What card to buy?
Post by: wpayton34 on March 31, 2018, 02:23:29 AM
Was looking into buying 3 or 4 rx 580 8g  or should i get 2 1080ti?  Kinda want to game with it occasionally also.  what you think is the best buy for the future?  I see on whattomine that the rx580 is good for ethash but i am really interested in raven coin.  Im just starting off and still trying to wrap my head around crypto mining.  Thanks!

Unless you have money to spend on it as a hobby or as a learning experience.... it's not a very good time to get into mining right now.

If you want to learn some basics I would recommend using your current desktop if you have one available and learn how to do it before tossing $3k at it. :)

the best card to buy is eth $400 and you will get your roi in few days, there is no better card to buy right now. With $3k you can buy 7 eth cards.

Do you mean just straight buy eth i am assuming?  If so roi is instantaneous  :D

OP If you are new to the game i would spend a lot less, learn the ropes and buy straight crypto with the rest.  Once you get your feet wet and learn your way around then go in deeper.  My 2 cents

Personally, I suggest getting RX580 besides a price is cheaper also easier for  Modifying or OC but if looking from TDP surely RX more power consumptions.

RX580 more stable to mine in EThash algorithm if compared with 1080'ti but I know every card has each advantage to a specific algorithm.

If you want to game with it as well?  1080ti hands down, especially if you SLI 2.

Good one. That is the best buy for the future.

People should realize that getting into mining at this point in time would be really dangerous. Lots of risk especially with ETH ASICS, upcoming POS fork, and much more..

Yeah, but you know, trolls never learn, they have to go through the whole "I was stupid" process to understand how things work. If eth was $1300 again or $5 per day per rx 580 like used to be then I would say yes go for mining, right now with all the uncertainty around mining, i would buy eth since it crashed almost 4 times and we all know eth will be $1300 in coming weeks to months again.

Probably not a good time to invest a lot into mining at this time, but on the other hand you could get a good deal on a used rig since many are trying to sell theirs. You should be able to find a 6 RX 570 rig for less than $2.5k, at least that's what I would ask for one of mine

I would build a frame, get the mobo, CPU, ram etc, and a couple of 1050 tis to get started. Save the rest of your money for the new cards coming out later this year and when market has (hopefully) recovered a bit

my opinion is better to buy 3 or 4 rx 580 8g because the chance to mining coin will big and you can have a big hashrate depends on 2 1080ti. although I don't know much about mining, I see that rx 580 still a good GPU for mining and I think the price is not too expensive with 1080ti and besides that, you can get big hashrate or equal with 1080ti. but the choices are up to you and I think you know what to choose.

Any of these cards are suitable for mining. You should buy whichever one you can get at MSRP. DO NOT pay marked up prices for GPUs given the current state of the market.

I made a guide on how to get GPU's for MSRP. You can read it here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3221668.msg33511338#msg33511338

Antminer s9 1850 w/psu. Take the other 1150 and build your rig.

we all know eth will be $300 again in coming weeks.

Fixed.  Buying any AMD GPU right now is lighting your money on fire.  Wait for the flood.

because of the topic is between RX580 VS 1080'ti. I think 1080'ti better for longtime mining. that's a GPU has a low power consumption and flexible to mine in Ethash or Equihash Algorithm.

Note: Price of GPUs is terrible and almost all coins price is fallen, this can be a consideration to buy a GPU.
