Title: Help mining with ASICminer USB block erupters
Post by: mckaskie on November 01, 2013, 02:51:26 PM
I have heard all the profitability/ROI stuff so please don't bother. Just looking for some help getting my miners set up.

I purchased 4 of the new ASICminer USB block erupters (v. 3.0). I can't seem to get more than two to work at a time no matter what I do.
My desktop MB has:
6x onboard USB 2.0 port
2x front panel USB 2.0 ports
2x add on card USB 2.0 ports

I also have a externally powered (2A) 7 port USB hub.

I have tried endless configurations of connecting the miners using just the usb hub, 2 onboard ports and 2 front panel ports ...etc And no matter what I can only get cgminer to recognize two miners at a time. Any ideas what could be causing this? I am running Windows XP with a asus m4a785-m motherboard.

Mckaskie,

Sadly, I had the same issue with an XP machine. I tried various driver configurations as well to see if I could get it work and still nothing. Please know that I am not saying it won't work, I just haven't been able to find the answer yet.

However, as soon as I went through the installation process on an old Windows 7 machine everything went perfectly with CGMiner.

I followed the instructions from this post: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=220450.msg2321308#msg2321308.  The bottom half of the instructions is what I used where it explains using version 3.4.2.

The trick that I found was to install the drivers with the BE's installed.  With a second Windows 7 machine, I went through the same process of installing the drivers with the BE's installed and didn't even restart the machine, just simply started CGMiner and it picked up all 5 without question.

I know this doesn't' help with your XP machine, but if it worked that easily on a Windows 7, then there has to be a way to make it work on XP.  I'll have more time this weekend, so I find anything else, I'll come back and post it here.

Thanks for the info! I kind of had a feeling that it may be related to using XP. Seem like most people that are running windows 7 aren't having any issues. Maybe it has to do with how xp handles the USB controllers. I may see about upgrading it to 7 instead of fighting with xp.  :-\
