Title: [Nxt] Gauging interest on Nxt banknotes
Post by: BCNext on November 01, 2013, 05:34:08 PM
Read about Nxt (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=303898.0) if you don't know what it is.

We are planning to create Nxt banknotes in different denominations.  Each banknote will be a piece of paper with the following parameters

# Width/height -- the same as a credit card with rounded corners (we were thinking about choosing the same size as a dollar bill but Nxt is "more" international).
# Density -- 220 gsm (3 times more dense than office paper)
# Background color -- Slate Blue (RGB = 171A1D in average)
# Main text color -- Ivory (gold color is available but can't be used for printing on Slate Blue :()
# Protection -- a hologram (10 variants for 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500, 1000 NXT denominations), redeemable code under the hologram

These banknotes can be used as paper money but their main purpose is to attract ordinary people.  Someone can redeem a banknote by scratching the hologram and entering the code into the Nxt client.

We faced some difficulties

# Minimum 100,000 banknotes to order (1,000,000 to get a discount)
# Part of the redeemable code can be removed while scratching the hologram, we could choose other background color but Slate Blue looks so cool
# Necessity to stick a hologram increases the net cost greatly, still brainstorming other ways of protection

Please, choose an option how many banknotes you would order.  You will be supposed to pay with NXT to cover face value of the banknotes plus delivery.  Other expenses will be covered with our own budget.

To increase user base.

The banknotes can be used without downloading a client.  By the way, it is not necessary to download a client.  Just type an address in your web browser.

The first idea was to print booklets.  But they are usually thrown away 5 minutes later.  Would you throw away a dollar banknote with some advertising on it?  That is why an idea to add "value" has come.

P.S.  Maybe it is not a very good idea to print banknotes, but I have to spend a certain amount of money to advertise Nxt anyway.

The core is ready, advanced features are in development and will be shown soon, time to think ahead.  The banknotes will be distributed after the release.

Esp with the small funds you have so far accumulated.
The plan was to accumulate users, not money (remember I asked for tiny amounts?)

Could you paraphrase your reply, please?

None of announced services needs funding.  There was an idea to create a micro-device similar to Bitcoin Card, but I didn't find developers.  I want to fund a project that would help Nxt to go mainstream.

I expect a lot of bitcoiners will join after they "taste" decentralized stock exchange.  Now it's time to think about mainstream.

You need to have this up and running with some adoption already before I would bother with this type of advertising.  People with no exposure to cryptocurrency are not going to bother redeeming it if there is nothing to use it with.

I totally support this.

You need to find some genesis owner. It is in their interest to promote this project.

making any paper objects that purport to have monetary value, would instantly be considered forgery, or counterfieting, i live in the US, it could be differant in other countries.

I know nothing about NXT, but if I were promoting it, and I could give someone a small denomination banknote, I think it would gain their curiosity.

I think it will interest a different group of people. I think it all boils down to the quality of design.

Hello.

You mean is forgery if the paper is made in US?!
What if a paper is made outside US where the law allow this,
in this case this should not be forgery, am I right?!
