Welcome to the official Bitcoin Penny® Collector's Guide — a pending wonderland of useless facts and pointless trivia dedicated to our own little contribution in the world of bitcoin collectibles which we call the Bitcoin Penny® Commemorative Coin!

(NOTE: This page is a perpetual work-in-progress.)

In this thread, we'll try to answer all of the most commonly asked questions about our coins and company.

Let's start with the most popular question of all:

Quote
"How many different kinds of Bitcoin Penny® Commemorative Coins have been minted? I'm trying to collect them all!"

We're asked this question all the time. Honestly, it's quite flattering to know that some people enjoy our little coins enough to try collecting them all. To those of you who tirelessly seek to complete your private collection of Bitcoin Penny® Commemorative Coins, I'd like to offer a giant manhole cover sized "THANK YOU!" You're the reason that we do what we do, and the reason why we'll continue doing it, year after year!

Here is a complete list of all the various coins that we've minted over the last few years with approximate quantities in blue:

2015 CJB x1,000 (NOTE: This was our first production run. These coins were missing the protective lacquer finish. Only a few hundred made it into the wild.)
2015 CJB Error (Medal aka Book-turn Alignment) x1,000 (NOTE: These replacement coins have the protective lacquer finish, but were minted in the wrong alignment.)

2016 Double-Head Proof Coin (DAVE / SN) x4
2016 Double-Tail Proof Coin (Minted in USA / S. Nakamoto) x4
2016 DAVE x1,500 (NOTE: This was our second production run of 2016.)
2016 DAVE Error (Medal aka Book-turn Alignment) x500 (NOTE: This was our first production run of 2016. These coins were minted in the wrong alignment.)
2016 SN Error (Medal aka Book-turn Alignment) x500 (NOTE: This was our first production run of 2016. These coins were minted in the wrong alignment.)
2016 DAVE Mini Physical (Blank Reverse w/ Holo Sticker) x100-150 (NOTE: The exact quantity is unknown. We ordered 100, but the mint sent extras as apology for the mis-aligned DAVE and SN error coins above. We never bothered counting the individual coins.)

2017 Double-Head Proof Coin (IRIE / SN) x4
2017 Double-Tail Proof Coin (Minted in USA / S. Nakamoto) x4
2017 IRIE x2,000

I do read minds. And the answer to your next question is, "Mannequin, starring Andrew McCarthy."

Looking at this thread was a real downer for me.. Made me realize that I don't have nearly enough diversity in my penny collection. You are one of the greatest makers on this forum Chris, keep up the awesome work!

I know right? I have quite a few of these, but certainly not all of them. The double headed/sided ones will be the hardest to attain. What's the going rate per penny these days anyhow? 10 bucks?

Am confused about if i have the medal alignment 2015/16 or not :/

Flip the coin over top to bottom. if it's upside down on the back, it's the medal alignment (error).

Compare it to a US penny. Flipping top to bottom (Not side-to-side) should show the other side right-side up. (Not an error)

Hope that makes sense? :P

If anyone has a 16 or 17 dh DT or both, I'd love to find a mutually pleasing manner of purchase. Also in search of a cjb roll and 2016 canvas bag o'coin. Also a sjb non error coin. Please p.m.

Please clarify
I see this in the OP, is it correct?  "2016 SN Mini Physical (Blank Reverse w/ Holo Sticker)"
The mini-physicals are "SN" coins?

also for the 2017 ones.....  "2017 SN Mini Physical (Blank Reverse w/ Holo Sticker)"

From my auction here, I see the DIY are 2016 DAVE and 2017 IRIE

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2899844

Thanks

Yes, you're correct. I've corrected the OP. Thanks, MJ. :)

Me

UPDATE #1: Approximate mintage quantities have been added to the OP. Please remember that these mintage quantities are approximations only. Many coins are used for fun promotional purposes, such as leaving one in the extra penny tray at the local convenience shop, dropping a few in grocery store parking lots, leaving one on a park bench, flipping a few into wishing fountains at theme parks, hiding many as prizes in geocaches up and down the east coast...you get the picture...so the full mintage is not always circulating in our beloved online collectibles world.

UPDATE #2: While researching our past orders for mintage quantities, we remembered that all 2016 SN coins were minted in the wrong alignment, making them all error coins. No non-error coins exist for our 2016 SN coins.

Regards,
Chris

Manholes. Are manholes not a BP Penny? ;)

LOL The MANHOLE COVER Physical Bitcoins fall into their own special category of "Bat-shit Crazy, But Still Totally Dope Crypto-Collectibles."

On the other hand, they do feature the standard "penny" front design, so maybe they could be considered one of our standard coins, just a wee bit bigger. Yes, I suppose that we should edit the OP to include our MANHOLE COVER Physical Bitcoins.

Good call, Ticked. :)

Regards,
Me

EDIT: The OP has been updated to include all public addresses for MANHOLE COVER Physical Bitcoins.

A few quick updates...

1. As many of you know, we were working with a new mint for our upcoming 2020 Copper Collection. The new mint would have changed our copper coins from their traditional 23mm size / 97.0% purity to a slightly larger 25mm size / 99.9% purity. The changes were minor, but we were looking forward to the slight increase in size which may have allowed for slightly more intricate designs on the reverse side. Unfortunately, by the time we were ready to start the minting project, the mint had been forced to re-examine its pricing structures, and the new minting cost for our coins had increased well above the original projected cost. In fact, it would cost us considerably more money to mint the coins than to sell the coins. While we're not in the business to grow rich, we are certainly not in this business to lose money either, as I'm sure you all understand. Therefore, we will not be changing our Copper Collection for the foreseeable future, and all copper coins will remain in the same 23mm size / 97.0% purity that we've all come to know and love. When all is said and done, this may be a good thing. Tradition is important to us at TBPCo, and we look forward to carrying on our traditions with each and every one of you, for many years to come.

2. As for the upcoming release of our new 2020 Copper Collection as well as our highly anticipated 2020 MINI Manhole Cover Physical Bitcoins, the current state of the new COVID-19 / Novel Coronavirus has temporarily halted production of all Bitcoin Penny® products. We understand that this delay may be disappointing to some of our customers who have been eagerly awaiting our next releases, and we assure you all that we will resume production as soon as safety permits. Until then, please be safe. Stay healthy, and follow the precautionary guidelines of your governments. Our hearts are with you.

Regards,
Chris @ TBPCo

Just stumbled on this thread. But I've noticed it's a bit outdated. If I'm correct, there's a 2021 Bitcoin Penny copper and a 2021 Dogecoin edition in circulation.

Anyhow, I have to say this is a great reference thread for long-time Bitcoin Penny collectors like me. You can find everything neatly organized on a single place. Good work, Mr. Bitcoin Penny!  :)

Excellent resource indeed!

I won an auction a few weeks back for 3 BC Copper coins and this is a nice reference thread.

Visiting the website now I see a nice commemorative coin for 2021 but shipping to Europe is
pricey for such a small item, of course the more coins you buy the price per coin reduces.

Anyone else in Europe interested in a group buy?

Seems like this beauty should be on the list; a unique error coin from the Zepher collection. If I remember correctly, this was sent back from the mint as the first test to show the design. It was great except for the fact that it was giant sized rather than the standard bitcoin penny diameter.
