Title: [FAST AUCTION] Bitburner Fury board, 45GH/s+, in hand, ends tomorrow
Post by: scotjam on November 02, 2013, 05:33:08 PM
I received some interest on this from a few parties without running a formal auction, but not quite at the level I wanted, so I've decided to run a fast auction based on the recent template from cryptx: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=321331.0

  • Hashrate: 45GH/s+ (currently being achieved*)
  • 16 Bitfury ASIC chips
  • 4 Layer thermally enhanced PCB
  • External clock
  • PIC32 native USB-Controller
  • CAN-Bus inter-module communication option (it is possible to use only one USB connection for up to 8 boards if you have the right cables)
  • Power connectors: 6 Pin VGA, barrel jack for wallwart, terminal block.
  • Power requirement: 50 up to 75 Watts
  • Onboard 60A adjustable core voltage power supply
  • Host software: Cgminer
  • Temperature controlled fan

*This is what I'm achieving. Depending on the environment it may vary, so this is not guaranteed, but can reasonably be expected (depending on settings) and some people have managed to adjust settings to squeeze out about 10% more

Included:
  • Assembled Bitburner Fury PCB
  • Including 16 Bitfury ASIC chips
  • Micro-USB Cable
  • Cooling fan

Starting bid: 2.5BTC
Minimum increment: 0.11BTC

Location is London, UK. Shipping is additional and must be paid by the bidder. You can choose your own shipping (so you can decide the speed / cost you would like), as long as it is signed for so that I can verify the board has been received. Buyers from outside of the EU will be responsible for their own customs clearance so be mindful of this. I will ship this out very promptly once payment is received.

Auction closes tomorrow (Sunday, 3 November) at 20:00 UK time; deadline will be extended by 3 minutes after each new bid once this deadline has passed (e.g. if someone bids at 19:59, bid deadline will be 20:02 unless someone bids again before 20:02).

Money talks, BS walks. cryptx just sold 8 of these exact same boards at auction 2-3 days ago for between 3.4-3.8BTC each, plus shipping on top https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=321331.0 - on that basis, this is a steal at 2.5BTC starting bid

Yes, he sold them to people who can't calculate or are mining for a hobby and don't care about ROI. (Been there, done it)
50GH/s generates 0.05789BTC/day according to http://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/difficulty

If you take the next expected difficulty of 37% and calculate what you'll generate till the end of March, it will be 1.517BTC.
And that's excluding shipment and electricity.
Of course the 37% might be too high for all coming 2160 block periods, but it also might be too less!

I already concluded buying hardware is useless for now until the network has stabilized from the ASIC storm.

You bid 2.6BTC for his boards - my starting bid is 2.5BTC. One has to wonder whether you're discouraging bidding because you want to scoop up my board for 2.5BTC at the last minute

Wisdom comes with time... And no, I am not discouraging bidding.

I would urge everyone to bid.
Mining is not only ROI, it's also fun to tweak settings and optimize environment.
And an added bonus: heating your room.

I have had a private bid for 2.61.

Note to anyone else thinking of making bids via PM: it is better to post all bids in this thread, because I will not be held responsible for any private bids that I fail to post here fast enough before the deadline passes. If you want to bid, post here.

If you PM me, I will try to keep the thread up to date, but I can't be at my computer continuously right now unfortunately, and this thread will be the decider. If it's not in this thread before the deadline it will not count, even if you PM'd me before the deadline.

Best

i didn't want to say anything else before the auction ended, but, some advice

it would be wise not to base your pricing decisions on item x based on the price "some random guy" was willing to pay for it "a few days ago".

when I was pricing my 6990's to sell on ebay, there were 4 that had ended in the last week, w/ prices ranging from $350 to $470 (450 + 20 ship).   so, if the last one that sold was the $470 one, that makes the price $470?

oh, being optimistic w/ the shipping time, you'll have a week to use this at the 515m difficulty level, netting you 0.31 bitcoins, 0.31 for the 10 days after that (if you're lucky w/ ~30% difficulty jump), 0.22, 0.154, 0.108, 0.0756, 0.05292, 0.037044.

I'm glad I wasn't taken up on that 1.5 offer

Thank you for the courtesy - it is frustrating trying to manage an auction thread when there are multiple people trying to have academic arguments in it, so I appreciate you waiting until the auction was over.

I was looking to sell it for > 2.5BTC because I saw the price range in cryptx's auction. If it hadn't sold for 2.5BTC+, I would have kept it; that's why I priced it there (as a starting bid).

I personally really value the ability to mine; it's a wonderful feeling. It seems others do too (as there were a bunch of boards sold by cryptx at high prices, and I had at least 3 serious parties at levels above 2.5BTC). Unfortunately my personal circumstances have changed somewhat since I started investing in mining equipment so I now need to value ROI more than mining for fun. I have in fact sold most of my significant personal extravagances:
My KnC Mercury: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=310961
My Bitburner Fury (through this thread)
My car: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=320480.0

I have about 10 more things I will be selling. I might do some dual listings on eBay and here, but I think some of it might just get listed on eBay to save the hassle of negotiation on these forums for smaller items.

In answer to your question about graphics cards, yes - that transaction indicates that the price is $470, and that could be verified if you're willing to sell at that price and there are buyers willing to buy at that price. If there was just one buyer at that price, maybe it's just an anomaly, but if there are others willing to buy at that level, that's the price. Price is defined by buyer and seller appetite / availability (supply and demand), just as the price of bitcoins (and most other things) is defined by supply and demand: http://bitcoinchain.com/#period=day&chart_type=candlestick&trade_name=mtgox&trade_currency=usd&points=50&min=1379728800000

Furthermore, if the precedents were priced from $350-470, and you started your auction at $250, would you agree with people telling you that was an unreasonable starting price (despite it being lower than all of the recent sale prices)?

Best
