Title: Has Bitcoin Actually HELPED Regular People in Dangerous Places?
Post by: OROBTC on April 02, 2018, 03:23:56 AM
...

First a quick background note: I know some Venezuelans (here in the USA) who are into BTC.  I have not asked them if they are sending any to Venezuela (to family), but that is probably true in some cases.  Note that there are Venezuelan spies/sympathizers who would happily rat-out any Venezuelans openly receiving BTC down there (Venezuelan Customs also sometimes checks cell phones for BTC wallets).

While I have read that Bitcoin benefits money launderers, Chinese wishing to evade capital controls, Dark Web markets, etc., I have NOT read of actual people who have had their butts saved or greatly helped by Bitcoin.

Please feel free to mention any real world experiences of regular people being substantially helped by BTC.  Examples perhaps like paying border guards to leave, buying food in places like Caracas or Syria, a Bitcoin wallet helping you out after being robbed visiting a foreign country, etc.

If possible, please provide links.

Thank you!

Imo sir, bitcoin really helped countries with financial/currency crisis
Here Andreas Antonopoulos share his experience with bitcoin in Greece

As far as i know, bitcoin really valuable in 3rd world countries since their currency rate is so bad (compared to US Dollar), and keep sinking

Here's another story by David Hay

Well for refugees who are escaping war zones with bitcoin not in their pockets but waiting for them whenever they reconnect with their bitcoin wallets whenever they reach wherever they are running, swimming, or floating to.... I doubt the first thing on their minds when/if they reach their destinations is to hold a press conference or register to post on Bitcoin Talk.   Not everyone is Roger Ver posting everyday in *the lady doth protest too much* style.

Actually I do not know that, but with the spread of bitcoin all over the world, then I think it's very possible. After bitcoin increased last year, I often see bitcoin users who are loudly talking about bitcoin in public, it is very much different when bitcoin prices are still very low. With the incident I'm sure bitcoin can help ordinary people in dangerous places or conflicts.
