HSBC? Maybe he is one of those mis-informed people who thinks Bitcoin is great for money laundering and is investigating ways to expand his employer's business.

+1 This is the same HSBC that was "too big to prosecute" and forced to pay more than USD $1.9 billion in fines (yes billion) for knowingly laundering narcodollars:
