Title: how to protect their BTC from robbery?
Post by: troglobait on April 02, 2018, 07:38:37 AM
Increasingly, I hear that the Betz and other coins are stealing with brute force. My acquaintance had an accident, intruders penetrated into his house. With the help of brute force and weapons, they forced to transfer their Bitcoin to their wallets. How to protect from this?
I deduced the rule for myself, I never tell anyone that I am a crypto investor.
I deleted all applications related to crypto currency from my phone.
Can anyone be able to advise how to protect their coins?
I think every year, it will be more and more relevant.

There are a lot of crypto robbery lately but the best thing to protect ourselves is to not brag about being an investor. Nobody needs to know how much we worth or even how much investment we have, its just like open your door for unknown people to rob you. Deleting all applications related to crypto might be a bit too extreme in my opinion  ;D ;D but if your phone was constantly used by other people then it still a good choice. I'm more afraid with hackers rather than armed robbery at the moment.  :-\ :-\

Anonymity and its preservation is really the best way to protect yourself. Non-targeted attacks are fairly easy to work around. Targeted ones can be tricky, because they can vary from simple phishing links relevant to your identity to actual physical assaults. The good news is that if no one knows that you're in crypto, you can't be targeted. Make sure you preserve your anonymity by keeping your software up to date and your computer clean. Use trusted VPNs, and don't give your info away to bounties etc. carelessly.

What high profile targets usually do is keep their cold storage in secure locations away from their person. Honestly though, you probably need to be a crypto millionaire to even begin thinking about such a precaution.

With security and privacy, cryptographic coin is at risk of being stolen!
In my opinion, the only way to protect the BTC is to have a strong password and always be safe, do not brag ... In this case, investors do not use the real identity is good!

Well the most safest way is to never tell anyone whatever what you are doing. Also, if you are an investor and you are already rich, you might wanna need to hire some security guards on your home. Buy guns, if necessary, so that you can use it for self-defense. I am grateful that I do not have a big value of money yet because I might also have trouble protecting my wallet from threats.

This has nothing to do with where you store your coins it's common sense that you need to improve the security measures in your house if the intruders are in your house you can't do anything if you say you don't remember the password or any stupid excuse they will end up killing you

If you want to know how you can get the funds back after you have transferred to their account well let me make you aware of the fact all transactions made are irreversible and even if you try to track down the transfers he is making it will go in vein once he uses a mixing site or launders the money through dark web which happened recently with the nem hack

I do kniw a lot of ways to secure your bitcoin wallet in a hacker or scammers but in terms of this ways of brute force, I dont think I can secure it because I know that I would not know what will I do if that happens. In my country, there are some robberies that happens going inside the houses but I think that is rare here. I guess I will just give them my bitcoins since I value my life over my investments.

I've never thought that someone really thinks how to steal the other's coins. Now I know why Satoshi never tells us his identity. I think this kind of crime is one of his reason. And the best way to protect our bitcoin from this kind of robbery is keeping our identity secret.

Sorry for the loss to your friend :'(.
More precisely, I will give you some tips to increase privacy when using Bitcoin. It will prevent any physical theft of your cryptocurrencies.
  • Hide your IP: BitCoin network is a (P2P) network, it is possible to listen to transactions and register their IP addresses.
  • Use mixing services:https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1707954.0 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1707954.0)
  • Use HD wallet and avoid reuse of address
  • Encrypt your browsing: always use HTTPS  websites

What has value will always be a target for thieves and other criminals.
This is why you should never tell anybody how much coins you have or brag about it on the internet. Pro hackers know their stuff and will try everything they can to rob you.
Therefore store your coins offline, cold storage. Make several copies, encrypt it and store it on different locations.
Securing your coins is still not that easy and needs a good strategy. I mean imagine your home is burning and you stored your trezor or ledger at home.
You will basically be effd right?! Or you store your hardware wallets in a fire-proof vault. But that'll cost some bucks.

They can only bruteforce your wallet if they have an access to your wallet .dat file.
If you hold your wallet safely with an offline storage there is no way that someone would be able to access your wallet.

Bruteforcing the 24 words phrase ( seed that is being used as the "random" to make your wallet's private keys"), is impossible, as the dictionary contains more then 4K worlds, so it's impossible to guess straight 24 words.

Hold your bitcoins offline with a USB flash drive or with a hardware wallet, and you will be okay and won't need to worry about getting robbed.

The easiest way to avoid a btc robbery is to not tell anyone about your btc. If nobody knows you have btc then you shouldn't encounter any issues.

Brut force? Really is that the way to hack into our system and catch the bitcoin?

I dont think Brut force can really crack the wallets and do the job for you. You know very well our wallets are protected with the unique private keys which can take more than 35 years for the smartest computer to hack into it. And you telling me that Brut force can open up the wallets like that. Lolz. I dont belive it, we are very secure and that was one of the principle behind the use of bitcoin.

Also you can just secure your devices with in build password protection, add software with pattern locks for extra security, add 2FA authentication to your wallet itself and store your private key in different location. You will be fine with it.

With this I agree! When people ask me what I do. I say that I'm in the advertising field. I do not tell anyone else that I am connected with the crypto market. The story of my friend taught me this.

The most basic way to keep safe with your crypto is not to be too boastful. This is because in doing so, it is simple to make yourself an obvious target. You must refrain from publicly disclosing any information about the amount of money owned or what the controlling addresses are. But it is also wise to remember that, when approached face-to-face by criminals, your life and physical safety is more important.

In case of the situation that you just told us I dont think thre is any way to secure your bitcoins because there are some criminals that would even kill someone just to get what they want, in our situation bitcoin. I would personally give them what they want instead of getting be killed because I know that is possible to happen.

Speaking of protecting you bitcoin online, you shouldn't hold any bitcoin in online wallets or exchangers becaude hackers can break into absolutely anything and stole your money or bitcoin, it doesn't matter how good your security is. Keep your bitcoin in offline hardwares and dont tell anyone even your best friends that you have bitcoin and most importantly where you hold it because that would be dangerous.

in exchangers I do not keep much money, just for quick exchange. All large sums only on cold wallets.

Use a hardware wallet or cold storage if you wish to protect yourself against hackers because that is the best possible way to do it. If you end up using an online wallet then secure your private keys, write it down somewhere only you can get to.

I'm not saying that I'm afraid of hackers. I'm afraid that I will put a gun to my head and ask to enter a password! How to protect yourself from this?
