Blockchain is the biggest buzzword of the year. However, we are just now beginning to see what silly creative ways will this technology be applied. The newest example from China is a blockchain-based toothbrush by 32Teeth, currently crowdfunding the project through the JD Finance platform. The company aims to make your teeth really clean by applying not only blockchain technology, but also facial recognition, sensors, and big data. The toothbrush app offers precise identification of 16 tooth surface cleanliness levels, analyzes users’ brushing activity data, and offers a powerful intelligent reminder. It even has AR function which gives you an inside look (literally) into how you brush your teeth.

The toothbrush also tries to make each of your 32 teeth—the average number of teeth in an adult—a cryptocurrency mine. Brushing your teeth regularly rewards you with AYA tokens  which can be exchanged for more toothbrushes, toothpaste, and dental hygiene services. Although some have ridiculed the product—one commentator worried that his mother might give it to the dog to chew so she can mine as much free stuff as possible—many consumers seem excited with the idea.

atleast the tooth brushing idea thought outside of the box to reduce risk of fake 'mining' by having ways to check a task is actually done by a sole individual

seems better than an idea last year about a fitbit 'jogging' miner.. which ended up with people just selotaping their fitbit to their ceiling fan to fake movement for free 'points'.

OMG...Dentists will become the next farmers.
My dentist could easily mine for about 100 people just from the models he has made for various patients.
Those things are so cheap to be made and the "miner" should be that accurate to differentiate it would cost a fortune.

But the idea sounds like a joke, and hopefully it's going to be just a joke.
What's the purpose of this coin? Trading your prosthesis for a brace?

My family has been using them for 4 years and we're just going to the dentist for annual check-up, no cavity no spots no tartar.

Sounds funny. They're just complicating stuff. This hype to label everything with "blockchain" reminds me of the time people actually put radium in their toothpaste and lipstick.


I know it's possible to recognize the face with a software though I wonder how they'll track the brushing movement in the mouth. Would it be per stroke or per seconds that you brush it? Looks a bit hilarious but yeah, probably harder to fake than fitbit. How come no one has yet thought of a Pokemon Go style of mining?

As ridiculous as this sound, I won't totally write it off as a form of respect to the amount of energy and thought that would have been put into this before coming out with this project. But that does not stop the project from being criticised because I can really see the practicability of this happening. People spread across the world using tooth brush then turn to coins for them somewhere across the world registered on a software? This has gone beyond the filling of details online which could be forged or faked but this, is locating you and know where you are at any point in time you obey the call of nature to brush your teeth. I will pass on this.

People should be cautious with these bizarre ideas. Incentivize people with coins can make them brush their teeth excessively just to earn some more coins. This can damage the tooth enamel and in the end, they will end up spending more money on repairing their teeth than they can earn in coins for brushing them.

That's a very good idea to me, using Blockchain technology to create a toothbrush, and see for yourself that toothbrushes are much needed or used by everyone, and I think this project will be a success.

Ehhh, I think I'll wait until they start using laser-guided brushing, the MVP just isn't enough for me.  This one's all yours.

Do this require some kind of toothpaste to work? You look so serious about it and you got me on that. Haven’t heard any news related to this toothbrush mining idea. Who knows, right? We can start cleaning teeth while earning an AYA token. This does require internet then a toothbrush with a WiFi is a must.

I know it’s a ridiculously too much for this purpose, but humans are weird naturally. Will wait for any progress man.

How i wish this was true?! If this would be the best solution to fight hunger and corruption. This will become mainstream and people on street will keep smiling and happy everyday. With this the dentists will get to be the miners, and surely this toothbrush will be costing high in the market. What's the need of blockchain technology into the toothbrush. When one brush the teeth, it gets mined. Common man will brush twice a day. Morning two minutes and in the evening two minutes. In this four minutes of time what'll be got as the mined output.

But anyway, the site supposedly that will manufacture this toothbrush is 32 teeth ( https://32teeth.cn/indexv1.html ) and they are still up but don't know if the particular toothbrush for mining is a success. Couldn't find any updates what happened to this project? There's AYA ticker but there's no AYA token related to this project. So I assume, they are not successful?

I think this idea has a positive and negative impact on the population, because some will brush all day just to mine coin which is not good for the health.

If they are successful in producing this product then that is correct Dentist will be generating more revenue then anyone else from this project.

I am still skeptical how effective this project will in real life. If the toothbrush can deliver what it promises like tracking and improving your oral hygiene then Dentist will suffer the most as they will lose a lot of client.

I think this thread may have been inspired by an April Fool's Day joke post somewhere or other.  Getting a scan of your teeth is easy enough for a dentist to do and they can advise if you are or are not brushing your teeth as well as you should.

That's exactly what we need - more facial recognition and big data. Just put it into every single aspect of our lives, who needs privacy anyway.

And since blockchain is just a database, just think for a moment how stupid it sounds - "The company aims to make your teeth really clean by applying not only a database". It's like "solving world hunger with NoSQL" or "ending crime with Javascript". I don't get how can companies treat blockchain seriously if this field is full of crap like this project.

the thread was old but i dont care because i find this cool and a little bit funny  . i think this is the only the project that im interested to see and follow more than millions of other projects because i find them boring . this is a cool and effective way to introduce crypto to our friends  or on any other people in any ages. not only it will help you earn , the effects are also healthy because it makes your teeth clean and free from cavities . 

the idea is to brush a tooth and not to chew , didnt he even think of that ? how smart is that guy lol . he thinks he can cheat it when its already described how smart is this thing works .

Is this serious? My first time to see such project that we can earn while brushing our teeth. Wait, we just brush 3x a day so we earn tokens 3x a day unless we brush out teeth as much as we want just to earn tokens. Lol kidding. Anyhow, looking forward how this will gonna work. Very interesting.  Though i think it will be more complicated because of the proofs how can it be detected, right.

Generally, I really like this thing, although for myself I would not buy this, even if it was real.

Quite unfortunate. People can be dishonest to many limits. I guess this particular invention can not be spooked or faked

There is nothing surprising in the fact that a large number of commercial campaigns will try to speculate on the blockchain in order to get super profits, however, in all the variety of frankly unnecessary things that will be sold with reference to the blockchain, will still come across really unique goods. You just need to be patient and all this will happen one day.

Anyway regarding to the topic, I'm not surprised already that I've seen people's movements and their daily doings being used to create money.
I've seen app that allows you to earn money while jogging and here comes this 2018 article.

Im not sure if this called awesome at all. Like seriously can earn coin through mining with that? Im not being disrespecful but the idea would not gonna sell anyway. Ive just saw this and thinking its a long time project already.

What Im curious about is why people keep relating a simple unrelated to blockchain into adoption? Like this kind of application isnt gonna push and move over.

I'm not surprised that the topic was created in 2018 and not in 2020 because the first thing I though when I saw this is that it belongs to the past. Back in the golden days of ICOs and altcoins there were all sorts of innovative ideas about Blockchain usage and mining variety. Mining while playing a game on your phone (Electroneum) is what I remember most from this era. Brushing teeth and mining sounds cool, but is actually a pretty terrible idea because a person would be inclined to overbrush teeth which can be bad for health. And many of those projects seemed ambitious and diverse but proved useless or hard to implement.

seeing that there are no latest updates on the project. it is safe to say it was a failure or didn't get enough attention from the cryptocurrency enthusiast. although I am not sure if they discontinued the production of the specific product. kudos to the company trying to be innovative toward the application of blockchain but they could have done better.

anyway, if anyone is interested Shenzhen Timing Technology Co., Ltd. is the name of the company and 32teeth.cn is the name of the website for their toothbrush products.

Perhaps, the best application could be for fittings as people are exerting amounts of energy to continuously do things that could possibly be used for benefit of bitcoin mining. But I just can't imagine how the product works, if you are brushing your teeth, the energy it could provide is very little, or are they still connecting it to power? If so, it was unsafe to brush teeth with power plugged. Perhaps, the effort you could give is very minimal meaning, with huge farms competing and drawing a huge amount of energy, the bitcoins you could mine will possibly be very little or close to nothing.

 its much pretty clear that object and items with web3.0 are going to be much more connected of the items we have used with web2.0 .

I don't mean to continue this old thread being bumped and this idea is obviously full of difficulties.  It had me thinking though, how could these difficulties be addressed and used for good.  It got me thinking, instead of something like mining with a toothbrush, what if coins were distributed for doing something positive and needed for society, that is also limited by a person's individual body (so you don't set up a toothbrushing machine to "mine" all day long).  It got me thinking that a BloodCoin might be a great invention.  Blood banks could be setup to reward individuals with coins for donating blood.  These coins could represent blood you've given, so earnings would be limited by the amount of blood an individual could donate, and also maybe people in need of regular blood transfusions would see this as an investment in their health.  Hospitals could even buy coins to make sure that they'll be able to get more blood in their banks depending on supply, etc...  Anyway, just a thought.  Getting people to brush their teeth is good too.  :)

The reward system can be hijacked. There is no true purpose with the brush. It is an invention which is stated as functioning over blockchain. Will such ideas make blockchain progress.

Sure, brushing of teeth is something that we shouldn’t be missing on a daily. People should always make sure that they’re taking good care of their teeth, although most of them never really know how important this is, but it is very important that we start doing that. And if possible we should also try to create awareness for such things, so that most people would know what they are meant to do. Some people never visit the dentist, and some of them never take proper care of their teeth. People should know the dangers of not taking proper care of their teeth, and when they are aware of these dangers, then they would start doing their best as much as possible to do so.

;D even with the heavy hard wear for mining it is still a difficult process to mine Bitcoin let alone just brushing your teeth which usually wouldn't take 10min, so how much sats will you be getting even if you brush your teeth all day ;D. It is s good marketing strategy but I don't think even if it went through if that will last long, what happens when you change the toothbrush?

Didn't heard about this fitbit cheat but good thing that they've discontinued that product because that's unfair although in a technical sense, they do spend some energy which is the electricity for operating the ceiling fans. They might've been able to prevent this by doing a tracking to see if there's any movement to indicate a jogging. Regarding the toothbrush, it's actually a pretty nice idea especially to those that have problems with brushing their teeth, with a financial motivation, they will be able to move.

Possibly this toothbrush firm have partnered with some of the dental firms. People out of curiosity will brush for long time which will destroy the oral health of the people. As said everything is connected with business, maybe the dental firms will give a share to the brush manufacturer. In real-time these toothbrush isn't gonna make any big impact on the cryptocurrency network.

This might be an old topic but its not surprising that this idea had failed out.Who would be the hell that would tootbrush non-stop just because you could able to mine coins?

People do really ending up on applying absurd ideas on every basic steps that we do have in our daily lives which turns out to be bullshit in the end of the day.

Its not necessary that attaching up these things for the sake of crypto engagement, its not surprising that this one hadnt really progress or had died eventually.
