Bitmain has officially released their Ethereum ASIC cryptocurrency miner the Bitmain Antminer E3 hashing 180 mh/s on Ethash (Ethereum, Etheruem Classic, PIRL, UBIQ, and more) and consuming 800 watts. The performance is not much different than an Ethereum GPU Mining Rig especially when graphics card prices were lower but the price to profitability of the Bitmain Antminer E3 may alarm you.

Why would ETH have to hardfork ?  The E3 hashes less than every one of my GPU rigs .  It is more efficient and it doesn't compete with GPU gamers.

It sounds like a win win for everyone.

it's not even more efficient, p104-100 is better 40MH for 100 watt only, so 320MH for 800 watt

Hardfork not only help to survive the gpu company it can also help millions of gpu to be junk or to sell too cheaper.. ASIC MIner can kill the GPU company because of the dominal effect that most of the miners will sell for sure their gpu in a very cheap price, what was the effect of that? The 2 gpu chip company will going to force sell low price, low quality or it may cause to stop their production... Just my thoughts... SO ETH HARDFORK is the only way and solution.. But please make sure that this hardfork is a TRUE ASIC RESISTANT algo..

miners make less in recent years. Bitmain only aims to profit itself with the devices it produces.

The miners don't give a shit about him.

The Metropolis Update is around the corner...
For those who don't know is making ETH from PoW algorithm to PoS algorithm, similar to Zcash.

A Fork Now will create 3 coins and will make harder to launch Metropolis Update,
Or will force ETH developers to launch the Metropolis Update before is complete. "With serious bugs."

Ethereum Classic ETC "inmutable"
Ethereum 2016 Fork "mutable" PoW algorithm.
Ethereum 2018 Fork different PoW Algorithm.
Ethereum 2018 Metropolis Update from 2016 Fork. ETH

When ETH becomes PoS all mining farms will become useless.

PoW Miners with lots of GPU's will have to abandon ETH...

Some people say that Bitmain decided to sell EThash miner now because the Metropolis Update...
It was a secret weapon,

When ETH becomes PoS, ASIC Miners can only be used in Ethereum Classic...

It could mean the rebirth of the ETClassic from the Ashes.!

The Updates before Metropolis includes progressive infinite difficulty... already installed.

Such a ridiculous title that I am not even going to watch the video.  The price to performance ratio is no different than the people who were able to buy hundreds of 480s and 580s for under 200 bucks each.  Should we punish them while we are at it?  The forking frenzy is getting out of control.  It kind of reminds me of politics to be honest.  The group that is currently benefiting is the group that demands change when they suddenly don't have an advantage anymore.

I fully agree.  People need to be careful what they wish for.  An algo change could easily propel Ethereum Classic above ETH. Why would anyone invest in a technology that shows its willingness to change rules on a whim.

Given your argument, one could also say a lack of algo change could easily propel ETH below Ethereum Classic. Why would anyone invest in a technology that is not willing to adapt to changes?

As a GPU miner, i'm all for banning ASICs to keep my rigs profitable. As an investor, i'd still vote for banning ASICs to ensure no single company monopolizes the mining industry.

as far as I know...
ETH 2016 Fork has a Time Bomb, that slowly makes imposible to Mine...

ETClassic does Not.

Making a Fork to Ban ASIC solves Nothing, ETH roadmap goes directly to a cliff.

ETH developers have already banned GPU's. LOL. Jajajajajajaja

Eth should think REALLY hard about hardforking into something ASIC resistant. I dont know the relationship between Jihan and Vatilik, but for the coin, ASIC resistant algo would be better in the long run. Both for users and for HODLers.

To preface...

Vosk, I didn't know you were a poster on BTCT as well. I enjoy watching your videos (and I'm a KMD hodler as well - so big kudos to you for all your work). I always enjoy your content.

I fully agree.  People need to be careful what they wish for.  An algo change could easily propel Ethereum Classic above ETH. Why would anyone invest in a technology that shows its willingness to change rules on a whim.

My input resonates with this statement as well. I understand peoples concern for constant changes in a currently functioning protocol, but if it's for the sustainability of the protocol itself (of keeping the network decentralized) - I'm for it. Although I do have to admit the hashrate of these ASIC Miners are pretty unconvincing to me. This is no where near the massive hashrate / efficiency spike we see when ASICs are implemented compared to other algorithms in my opinion, so I dont see it as much of a threat. I feel neutral and actally a bit positive about the outcome...Especially knowing how vehemently the Ethereum team wants to stop this.

Eth is already ASIC resistant due to the RAM needed .  That is why the E3 hashes at 200 mh/s and not 20,000 mh/s.

There is absolutely  no reason for a fork .    It would be cool if the E3 could dual mine ETH and Decred .

Yet for ETH, eventually it is going to option C:  Wealthy ETH owners collecting PoS rewards.

It's not asic. This is a set of 6 chips from the GPU. I'm sorry everyone's buying it. They'll never get their money back. The transition of Ethereum to POS is only a matter of time. After that, no one will need such asics. Now the GPU can be set to a different algorithm. What will you do with Antminer E3?

Your forgetting that, ethereum is not the only coin that uses ethash algo , anyway ETC team is considering the idea of reversing the dag file back the 1Gb allowing older video cards to mine it effectively :) thats their idea to counter ASICs menace, https://twitter.com/eth_classic/status/982566906988118016

There are lots of minable coins other than dagger hashimoto, just mine what more profitable and exchange what you want. And with that hashrate this machines has not significant superiority they have similar hashrate with 6 gpu rig.

unfortunatly this is so true , bitmain is doing that for some years already , they mine with their customers hardware and as soon as they have better miners they will send the used miners to their customers

The overall ignorance in this thread is staggering. the quoted post is especially hilarious to me. Hard forking away from ASICs is the side of this coin that is unwilling to adapt to changes. You have it completely backwards. Everyones opinion is based on greed because they already own their rigs. This device fosters adoption by people that dont want to spend $3000 on a GPU rig thats slower than this $800 machine. You can run this without having to constantly tweak and flash BIOS and watch for crashes. GPU mining is a giant pain in the ass compared to a set it and forget it ASIC.

I was able to get it working on nanopool. It says it's working in antpool according to Mining Status page, but it won't appear on Antpool dashboard. It's in the nanopool dashboard and I already have a balance from this miners rewards. It took about an hour before it appeared.

I couldn't get it to work at all on miningpoolhub, just says it is DEAD on status page.

For Mining Configuration:

URL: eth-us-east1.nanopool.org:9999
User: THIS IS YOUR ETH WALLET ADDRESS, or use mine  0x51DC987517641A3E29C63De710df569C42F0c44E  (just kidding)
Password: Here I put a unique rig number which I assign to all new machines, in this case E3001

Good luck guys. I always appreciate your energy, experience and knowledge. Thanks for all the help.

a large concern with many people -- not saying anything in particular w/ the user you quoted is that

for many (myself included) I don't hate ASIC mining, the issue is lack of manufacturers bringing even a semi fair product/distribution to market

I got 280 MH with 10x RX 570

10x Rx 570 power consumption : 1300 W = 4.6W/MH
Antminer E3 : 800 W = 4.4W/MH

10x Rx 570 = $3210 = $11.46/MH
Antminer E3 = $2100 = $11.6/MH

Thats why ethereum and others ethash algo no need to forks :)

e3 is already reduced to $1300 with a previous price point of $800 usd and even better value models on the horizon . .

No disrespect but I cannot believe how many people feel the way that you do, miners are more why I hedged my farm as opposed to Bitmain . .
