Team Monero wants to protect its GPU miners from the arbitrariness of Bittman. I don't think that's the only coin that's going to use this year's fork. In mid-July, the first supplies of asics for Ethereum are expected.

We probably won't see the rise of the price right before the hard fork because of the high Monero demand among those who would want to get some free forked coins. However for a big coin like Monero, i don't think the price will fluctuate very much because of this fork. |
