Title: Regulation on the horizon?
Post by: vpitcher07 on November 07, 2013, 01:26:40 AM
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/11/06/new-silk-road_n_4228156.html

"The emergence of a Silk Road clone prompted Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.), whose Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs committee plans to hold a hearing this month on the use of virtual currencies, to call for a new strategy to combat such black market websites."

Obviously directly attempting to regulate bitcoin would be a massive waste of time however if they do make it illegal to purchase coins this could be problematic. Obviously a big IF.

if they blocked the purchase of bitcoins.. then silkroad can easily in under 5 minutes change over to litecoin or anything. including other things that dont have a blockchain..

so governments trying to stop drug crimes by taking away the money wont work, after drug crime is a milti billion dollar industry, silk toad is only in the millions.. so its small fry.

The US Dollar is one of the most common means of purchasing drugs.  Look at the successful results of trying to stop that (sarcasm)

They already have hard times tracking dollars so they should make their job even harder by legalizing bitcoin ? Please

And follow that line of thinking and it becomes obvious it was never about "stopping crime" but stopping competition ... like better money. Besides Bitcoin can not be "legalized" since it is already legal as it ahs never been made illegal, if you want to run to govt. every time you do something novel to ask for permission you're enslaved already and probably a lost cause.

Well at least it seems like bitcoin is a better money for drug buying.

All evidence to the contrary ... ever been down to the street corner dealer and seen how much dollars gets exchanged for cash? ... it's a complete double standard fallacious argument designed to engender a visceral response in the stupid unthinking ... like you just exhibited.

What are the odds you get robbed/arrested/supplied with trash when you go to the street corner dealer ?
Online buying is pretty convenient and doesn't need bitcoin. Buying drugs online does. Therefore for an honnest person not involved in politics, the only advantage of bitcoin is the lack of fees. Oh wait. There is a hidden fee. Every block the networks "pays" someones 25btc. On average a block is loaded with 300 transactions, meaning for each transaction the network pays 25$.

PS : i'm pretty sure you figured out english isn't my native language, no grammar troll please
