Title: Merit for newbie.
Post by: Arlette Foxsparkle on April 09, 2018, 05:33:31 AM
Merit system is hindrance for those who want to rank up. What is the true basis of getting merit?

Did you ever wonder why merits are so difficult to earn?
Nope.  Reading what you wrote is a boring exercise, like listening to someone complain about life while you're trying to work.  There are so many mistakes in your writing that it's jarring to read--beginning with your first sentence.

You tried to pad this post, but it's a thought that so many other non-English speakers have written, and the fact is that people are trying to post in a language that they're not competent in, and they're posting in huge spam threads that no one reads.  If you're writing crap that's hard to understand, not interesting, and it's stuff that everyone else is writing, are you really fucking surprised that no one is giving you merit?  You shouldn't be.

And do you realize why this system was put into place?  I'd like you to answer that question for me.

I have noticed that mostly the higher members of this forum received more merit even their post, comments, and replies are too shorts.
In forum posts, length does not equate to quality.

Blah, blah, blah. How many times have I read this story on meta before? Higher ranked members have been in the business, so to speak, much longer than newbies (with some exceptions). That’s why they know more and earn more merits.

Won’t people get tired of writing these kind of posts at some point?

Not while they see that some misguided members award merit to them.

This is why the Merit system was introduced.

I'm hoping that this system will increase post quality by:
 - Forcing people to post high-quality stuff in order to rank up. If you just post garbage, you will never get even 1 merit point, and you will therefore never be able to put links in your signature, etc.
 - Highlighting good posts with the "Merited by" line.

Members that have been here a long time are more likely to have more knowledge and post useful stuff. Content quality isn't measured in post length.

Honestly merit is not like a star in the sky rather it is like a moon in the dark night. Once you have it you hit the moon and I can say you are the happiest person in the world for hitting the moon in the dark. Star can fall easily to the ground called black hole while the moon never fall but can be seen on its season. I will not complain about it for I know I can't do anything to stop merit but accept the fact that it will come if I deserve. Actually I'm dreaming for merit and I know that it is like I'm punching on the moon. For now much better to keep quiet and let us play the game of betterness with merit.

Did you ever wonder why merits are so difficult to earn? I have noticed that mostly the higher members of this forum received more merit even their post, comments, and replies are too shorts. Sometimes they gived and received more merits than lower members that why I was thinking about are the right or the true purpose of implementing merit system. And I was thinking again if this forum's mainly purpose is for helping others or to impress others?

Thats why others hardly to think that the merit system is unfair and this implementation is for only those who have multiple account with higher and lower accounts. Sad to say but we don't have a choice but to stIll waits for those kindly members that support and follow the regulations to give us a merit.

No offense this is based from my observations and curiosity.

If you are agree with this thought kindly share your ideas and opinions.

Thank you verymuch.

Let me break some myths for you:

1) Some new members got more merits than senior members. So do not generalize.

2) Senior members have more knowledge and experience which reflects in their posts. So they get merits.

And one question for you, since you compared merit system to stars, where is the justification for this ?

Normally, everyone who join this forum should not mind about merit but this forum is unique and unlike other forum , this forum has signature campaign and bounty.
For owner side, it's profitable because their revenue also increase
And for us, the poster, they become even more greed from time to time, bypass the post quality in order to achieve merit.

For shitposters, spammers and other non quality posters, ABSOLUTELY YES, it is hard gaining Merits for them...
I can't totally agree with you mate, not because I can receive Merits that can help me, its just that those HIGH RANKING people are the ones who really knows  about whats going on here and stayed for the better future for this Forum... They received more MERITS than the low ranking members, why? Although they have some short sentences to make but still it has a clear message for the OP/s. They're giving us an example of a quality posts... well, maybe there are some shit post of them that also gains Merits but it's their own decision whether they give or not... so let's just wait until they find our post a quality that suits their tastes.

And lastly... Don't compare Merits to the stars in the sky, because whatever you do you can't reach the stars above... No one has ever done that... Merits can be earned unlike the stars that you've been talking, you can never have one.

Stars are easy to see and portraits but never been possible to have.
So compare merit to other things, vote during election? Perhaps...

Never been complaining to this rules, since there's so much "hi" "hello " on local boards and they have to rank up as as like the other?
Think about it.

Yes it is. I am also believe that gaining a merit is a like an eclipse. You will see it after a years or many years. Even though you are a good in something, it is not enough because our rank considered as ignorant.

It was painful to go through your post history. If your English is at this level, you should try brushing up your technical knowledge and help others with that.

Technical information doesn't need to be wrapped up with forced words to be seen as substantial. That means you will have to work harder than usual. You should stop hoping for things to change with posts like this or by being extra polite. This has been a dead horse for quite a while.

There's only two ways for you to earn respect and merit on this forum:

1. Improve your knowledge and make yourself technically useful.
2. Actually demonstrate something you are doing in the real world to support or bolster the bitcoin economy.

If you are a star footballer, would you expect to be a star golfer without any training?

If you are rubbish at posting on the English boards, then why do you risk ridicule and your reputation by displaying your ineptitude on the serious boards here. I tried to start a training thread here, but very few people took advantage of it, and it ended up by being spammed by the incompetent with unhelpful comments. If you want to make progress here, then it is far better to try to improve your English elsewhere, or use you local language board.

You cant just beg for merits to get them, its not that easy and definitely wouldn't be fair to others because they actually try and thats how they receive them. You have to post quality posts.

Length is not essential to a direct and precise statement. If you make your point within a few sentences that should suffice.

Why do senior members recieve more merit (assuming they do)? Their posts are better. It's really that simple.

I really don't think it's that hard to earn merit. I haven't done anything special and am still recieving merits for some of my posts.

From personal observations, I'd say a signifciant amount of newbie posts are terrible (either have no substance or have poor English). It's not a good thing when a good newbie post stands out.

Here is some advice I have specifically for you after looking through your posts:

-Never use the word "sir" again. It's a dead giveaway that English isn't your native language
-Stop posting in megathreads with thousands of replies. The vast majority of comments in those posts are pure spam and people (including me) never bother opening those.
-Even if your English isn't the best, fix obvious spelling/grammar errors

You will always think merit is an hindrance to raising your rank if you just make a post or thread isn't there any useful information for others, the English language is not understood by others and you just focus on the merit that will make your encumbrance. Sometimes you can also get merit with 'joke' post but the content of joke have a strong information to the thread you are commenting on.

I do not have a lot of merit, you can berate me for that reason. But I always see from people who get merit, and I learned about it and made a conclusion about how to get merit. And I am a person who has never criticized the merit system, most importantly I can contribute to this forum, it's enough for me.

When you post a useful article with many people, someone will give you merit instead of thank you, I think so. merit will help you increase the rank in bitcointalk. You just have to work hard to post good and useful content or reply to help people then you will have the ability to be merit people. :) :)

You guys never had it so good. We had to through Newbie Jail when I joined and we weren't allowed to post on the main part of the forum. It isn't that it isn't Newbie friendly but that most Newbies only come here because they read somewhere they could make money from posting here. The few Newbies that come here because they heard about Bitcoin and were interested in learning more about it and getting involved have no problems at all.

Well, the outlook might be right but not all the time. I have observed the restrictions and new rules implemented by the moderators because of several abusers farming accounts here in this forum to sell accounts. So in order to lessen such things they implemented those rules, rules that are not friendly enough not only for newbies but for each and every one of us.

Incorrect...

check the below out..

To be honest, I'm speechless for your kindness towards people like me (which is non-english speaker).
I have nothing, but thank you so much, bud. Will never forget you and your kindness!

That's a post by a newbie from the 3rd world, the big thing is he took some advice, didn't post for a few weeks and spent that time improving his English, there is a lot of hate towards the shitposters as they caused the forum to go drastically down hill. Now as people join, if they read the stickies, educate themselves and ask relevant questions (not ones that the answer can be found on the same fucking page) then they are welcomed into the community.

The negativity towards merit comes from people who cant do something and don't want to learn, so in other words the lazy, who really gives a fuck what lazy people think?

No, it has actually changed due to merit system. Newbies are warmly welcome, but if they are spammers, the forum has strict rules to make them sad.
Due to merit system and new rank requirements, only constructive users can earn merits and rank up to levels higher than Junior member rank.

LOl, are you kidding?  It's rough even more older members!  It's an aggressive, competitive, sometimes mean-spirited forum, and I think that has a lot to do with how much scamming goes on here.  People get stick of having to constantly walk among pickpockets, and it makes them a bit prickly.

For noobs?  Yeah, it takes time to become established and it's hard.  Sometimes it seems as though most newcomers are just out to either scam or to post nonsense.  It's definitely harder on them, but most of them are deserving of whatever hazing they get.  Most, not all.

Well you will need to take the risks though , don't think that merit is a big hindrance , instead of thinking that it is a barrier or a wall to rank up think it as an motivation though.

One of the factors to get a merit is learn , read and be more useful , try to practice a constructive post something like that , be motivated though , think that its just a challenge that you will go through.

In this forum, getting merit is not an easy thing. Condition you just have to make a quality post, constructive and useful for forums and users. Post quality is not only seen from the length and number of posts. Because the length is not equal to the quality.

Of course it is, and this is why it was introduced. It is there in an attempt to stop users from gaining rank, and to make it easier for community members to  maintain the exchange of information, and to enter into discussions with like-minded friends.

Yes it is a big hindrance to some users who wanted to level up or rank up , but you missing the point you should be thankful and instead of thinking that its a hindrance make it as a positive thoughts  to strive and work and read. It's not just by posting a constructive post it's how you influence the person you talking too or replying to. Merit shows us to be more helpful and by the way its a forum not just like copying and paste some one's answer , and just work hard.

That sounds to me like the new trend people are following this days and I dont like it. Making new threads in meta about merit - irritates my eyes every time I visit the forum.

Also if you are referring to copy-pasting posts made by other sources then get ready to face the banhammer.

Meritable posts would be concise and to the point and not walls of text which makes the readers eyes bleed and cause retinal detachment.

Agree with you, TheUltraElite.
If members don't qualified enought to compose high-quality threads (at least in terms of written-English), they will never earn merits.
Next step after skilled enough to make high-qualitied written-English threads, they should move their attentions to contents (in order to make real constructives ones).
Only (or mostly) constructive, helpful, high-qualitied threads can get merits.

Members like this just have literally no idea what they're writing.  They just throw the words/phrases 'profit', 'knowledge', 'campaign', 'trading', 'make a quality post', 'invest', 'increasing day by day', and for each shitty thread that asks a question which has been asked a million times in a million other threads, they go through the permutations and BLAM, another god-awful shitpost is created--and they get paid for it!

This is the laziest way to make money, and this is all done to the detriment of the forum.  Good posts have a 20-shitpost-thick layer of sandwiching on each side, and it's very hard to find those good posts.  And to top it off, each person who makes a post using those words/phrases probably has several dozen alt accounts all doing the same thing.  One would think that if a campaign is going to pay you money sufficient for you to live like a pimp (which is the case for campaigners who live in 3rd world countries) you'd put way more effort into actually writing something worth reading.  But nope, they're either too lazy or too ignorant to do so.  I suspect in most cases, it's a healthy dose of both.

You did not read the post that I made. Your English is broken vomitted 3rd world piece of scummy half-pooped from rectum shit. Dont expect to get any merits by licking my ass like this. I wont budge.

Next step after skilled enough to make high-qualitied written-English threads, they should move their attentions to contents (in order to make real constructives ones).
What exactly do you mean by "skilled"? You need to be skilled to make posts? I think this forum is the only one in the universe which needs "skills" to post according to shitposters like you. On other forums its always a friendly chitchat going on. And the only ones to blame is the shitposters.

Only (or mostly) constructive, helpful, high-qualitied threads can get merits.
Merits sources have become resistant to these methods of pseudo-merit begging. Just stop it.

On another note I think this user is an alt of another person whom I have defamed a posts back. Trying to lick my ass, huh piece of shit.
