Title: confusion about bitcoin hacked?
Post by: xxToaDxx on April 09, 2018, 01:23:55 PM
I have had many of my friends and even members of this forum post thread about how bitcoin was hacked, I want to make a clarification,  bitcoin itself is a decentralized protocol which runs on nodes,  this are group of computers coming together to run this protocol or code at once on their system,  so bitcoin can only be hacked if all the network of computers can be hacked at once which is more or less impossible.  Only centralized company running api can be hacked,  eg exchanges,  gambling site etc.

many bitcoin and blockchain enthusiasts wondered if the inherent crypto nature of both was sound enough to withstand constant hacking. It didn’t take long to get an answer. Like everything else of value running on computers, bitcoin, other cryptocurrencies, and blockchains have come under frequent successful attacks. Hundreds of millions of dollars have been stolen, people have been cheated, and blockchains ripped off.

bitcoin/blockchains have not been hacked

exchanges have had their websites hacked and stupid/foolish servers that store their private keys on those website servers have had hackers use the private keys to take funds linked to those keys, and those keys only

in short. you cant hack a strangers cash under the matress by finding out your silly wife put her cash under a matress you can access.. the strangers matress is not the same matress you and wife have access to

People tend to confuse people being hacked, with bitcoin itself being hacked. The former is always the case, as the bitcoin core protocol is still resistant to hacking.

I think it mostly stems from ignorance, you wouldn't say a bank was hacked if someone used your stolen credit card, so why do morons still say this about bitcoin?

Bitcoin in a wallet is like money in a bank account, to say carefully hackers or persons can't directly take the money from the bank account so they need the password for link ATM account for that bank account to steal what's inside, same with the Bitcoin wallet, they need to take your private key first and first thing they will check is the email of that individual to see details inside their account, account, and key is what the thief want first before they can have the BTC inside, so dont say your BTC is hack, better to say BTC was stolen by hacker.

it is a very harmful thing that causes the account to be hacked when the account is very secure in its presentation that is what makes me ask

We understand by ourselves that bitcoin can not be hacked, if anyone can hack the bitcoin is just bullshit, and it's true with what you say when the sales, gambling, and others can be hacked.

It is a fake news that bitcoin was hacked. Bitcoin is a decentralized cryptocurrrency which can only be hacked if all the computer of the network can be hacked at a time which is almost impossible. So bitcoin was never hacked and hopefully never will be.

Hi,

Actually, it can be hard to make a distinction. Imagine, for a newie on the forum, such a thread may be even more confusing. He may heard about scams and may be worried about hacks... And at the same time, it is quite hard to grasp how all this is working.

So what you say is true but if you want it to be more effective, you should detail your explanations! ;)
