Title: Gaughing interest in a simple open-air case for Chili boards Post by: Spotswood on November 09, 2013, 09:41:19 PM I'm starting this thread in order to gauge interest in a simple open-air case for Chili boards.

Comments/suggestions? Title: Re: Gaughing interest in a simple open-air case for Chili boards Post by: hephaist0s on November 21, 2013, 05:39:29 PM Interested! But, I've opted for the VGA cooler setup, so they have a narrow profile and could be slotted vertically alongside each other -- do you have any options/ideas for that?

A slight variation of the open-air case I designed for Drillbit Systems would work (note the custom mounting brackets that are used to attach the corners of the card to the support beams). http://i715.photobucket.com/albums/ww153/Spotswood_/DRILLBIT%20Tray/DRILLBITTrayv2_zpse6bc316a.jpg (http://s715.photobucket.com/user/Spotswood_/media/DRILLBIT%20Tray/DRILLBITTrayv2_zpse6bc316a.jpg.html) http://i715.photobucket.com/albums/ww153/Spotswood_/DRILLBIT%20Tray/DRILLBITTrayv2wscribemockup_zps7955b7d4.jpg (http://s715.photobucket.com/user/Spotswood_/media/DRILLBIT%20Tray/DRILLBITTrayv2wscribemockup_zps7955b7d4.jpg.html) http://i715.photobucket.com/albums/ww153/Spotswood_/DRILLBIT%20Tray/Prototypetray-640_zps60843456.jpg (http://s715.photobucket.com/user/Spotswood_/media/DRILLBIT%20Tray/Prototypetray-640_zps60843456.jpg.html) Title: Re: Gaughing interest in a simple open-air case for Chili boards Post by: hephaist0s on November 22, 2013, 12:51:09 PM Ok! I would like one that holds 7 Chilis; I just measured the width with the Accelero Mono cooler attached and it is ~5cm each. How much would that cost / what's the next step?

Wait I thought the Chillis were PCI based hence need to be plugged into a MOBO? No, and no. I mentioned a minimum ~5cm width/ea which includes the heatsink, and Chilis are not PCI based and do not require a motherboard; the form factor was designed so that they could be fitted into a PCI slot if one wished, just as possible a way of mounting them, but they don't actually connect through the slot. And spotswood hasn't posted pictures of the revised vertical version yet, it was just a picture of a similar design.Wait I thought the Chillis were PCI based hence need to be plugged into a MOBO? |
