I've had some bitcoins since 2010. I don't transact often outside of occasion mid-term trading. Although, during times like the past few days, I do a bit of day trading, too. I play bitcoin poker on Seals with Clubs. Indeed, I am saving coins for the future. I don't plan to sell most of my coins until several years from now.

naw, not if it is mainly a store of value like gold. people don't generally use gold / PMs to pay for things like they to with currency.

I purchased my first 0.5 BTC a little over a day ago.

Because I technically don't possess them yet (the transaction will hopefully clear come Monday), I haven't spent any yet. That, and I want to purchase and have a decent amount of BTC simply to hold before I spend a whole lot.

I'm neither a business owner nor a provider of a paid service, but if I were ever to be in that position I would certainly consider accepting Bitcoin.

I have a background in software engineering (go figure!).

EDIT: Apparently my coins are coming through from Coinbase on Monday, as in November 18th. This isn't exactly a quick process, is it?

Check out Localbitcoins.com to trade cash for btc locally. Much faster and usually the price is pretty comparable depending on where you live.

I was very excited about my first purchase,  actually was going to pay by credit card until I noticed there was a bitcoin option. I held of for a day until I received my bitcoins.

I have to disagree with you there. Gold has intrinsic value. Bitcoin has intrinsic value only so far as it is being used for transactions.

If bitcoins were held by everybody as a store of value, then it would simply be a speculative bubble.

How long have you owned bitcoins?
About 6 months but larger purchase just 2 weeks.

How much have you been spending your bitcoins?
bought lotsa drugs - just kidding - I'm planning to use them when travelling and hold an equivalent amount just in case they continue to appreciate in price.  I hate dealing with traveller's checks, etc overseas and bitcoin seems like it might be the best and safest way to carry money while travelling for an exteneded period.  Also hopefully a nice way to meet some interesting people in each country thru localbitcoins.

Are you saving bitcoins in the hope they go up?
Yeah, that too.

Do you currently, or plan to, start bitcoin related businesses or accept them in your existing businesses in the near future?
No, I don't like getting audited - otherwise I would.

What business are you in?
retired engineer, now run online precious metals business

  • How long have you owned bitcoins?

I bought my first bitcoins in April, after the crash. Averaged in around $120. Had to wait a long time in the red before I started making money -- I held all the way down into the $60s. Although it was frustrating to be sitting on a big loss for a while, I held strong, because I believe strongly in the technology. Now I'm glad I trusted my instincts and I'm amazed at how quickly I've tripled my investment!  ;D

  • How much have you been spending your bitcoins?

I won't start spending any until the price is at least above $1000. I expect the growth rate to start leveling off some, but only when it gets into the $1000s. Until then, I think it's time to accumulate as much bitcoin as possible.

  • Are you saving bitcoins in the hope they go up?

Hell yeah!

  • Do you currently, or plan to, start bitcoin related businesses or accept them in your existing businesses in the near future?

Yes, I have a specific business idea to make it easier for people to send bitcoin to each other via Twitter and SMS. I expect to begin working on that by the end of this year.

  • What industry/background are you from?

I'm a front-end web developer, writer/editor, organizational development consultant, and entrepreneur.

Thinking about asking my restaurant to accept bitcoins. Their website is terrible, and I'm not sure where I would advertise that they accept bitcoins outside of their site.
