Title: Logging out? Post by: Jandur on November 10, 2013, 10:22:52 PM Maybe I'm missing something, but Electrum doesn't seem to require a password on startup? It just opens. Is this normal? I'm running it on Ubuntu.

Post by: bizz on November 11, 2013, 06:30:13 AM I'm not really sure about this but encrypted wallets will ask you for passwords and decrypt wallet only for short time when you are sending coins. If it asked you on startup it would keep the wallet open all the time and introduce additional risk.

It's needed when you want to send a transaction for example. If you want to protect your wallet from prying eyes consider putting it in a true-crypt volume or similar.
