Title: That's it, ASIC gen1 shipping is over, waiting for Gen2?
Post by: ehoffman on November 11, 2013, 12:25:56 AM
Well, looking at the hashrate (finally) hitting a wall, I can only speculate that BFL have ended shipping en masse...

So, the world is taking a breath and getting ready for Gen2 ASIC?  Or is this there something I missed with the reason the hashrate stalled?

"BFL"?  :D If you want to try to attribute the sudden deceleration to a single company, then perhaps the biggest change is that KNC stopped delivering last week their batch one and promised to wait shipping batch 2 till the 15th of November.

BFL is a continuous slow trickle of scam droplets and tea cup warmers... (cups sometimes included)

The (above) post is the correct analysis. It's due to the KNC delivering their 1st gen miners that caused the whopping increase in difficulty. BFL has been promising (?) mass delivery in 2 weeks for the past year and a half. Let's give credit where it's due.

Hope they delay gen 2 ASIC, I am pretty sure gen 1 ASIC will be useless by then :(..

I have to wonder if its a friend of Joshs, if not him, or somebody who just found out what a bitcoin was this week!! Holy moses I knew BFL was what it is like the 1st day I read about mining.....Yes KnC delivered! Hopefully my Jupiter and my partners 2 get shipped soon! Thats a very comical starting thread post the OP made.....seriously I laughed thinking it was someone being funny but I think he is serious!

Seriously, BFL haven even start production for Gen 1.. They are going to delay 1 year before doing so...

First of all, I see no wall. The network growth has slowed somewhat, but is still growing by 2% per day, thats almost doubling per month.

Secondly, as others pointed out, the reason for this is that "no one" is shipping. KnC is taking a break but will resume in 5-10 days, HF is delayed but Im still guessing they will ship in December, CT, BFL, Bitmine, ActM, Black Arrow and all the rests are yet to come. All thats being added right now afaik, is  almost obsolete 65nm BFL rigs, and some bitfury based devices, but thats still enough to make network growth quite substantial.

Lastly, I wonder what you call "gen 1" and "gen 2". Arguably asicminer and avalon where gen 1, and from there it gets blurry, but I certainly wouldnt put KnC in the same category as those 110nm chips, nor would I put HF and CT in a very different one. Whatever you want to call it, the deployment of 28nm asics hasnt plateaued, it has barely even started. Only one batch has been shipped from one single supplier.
