Title: $1 Bitcoin
Post by: Gamerholic on November 11, 2013, 08:41:52 PM
Bitcoins are back as a prize on www.gamerholic.com (http://www.Gamerholic.com).

Set the high score in a game of tetris, go on a 50 game win streak and you win 1 bitcoin.

each time other players fail to beat your score your win streak is +1

It costs you $1 to play.

This means you could win 1 bitcoin for $1.

Currently it says you are fixing some bugs...
Is there a free play version, on your site?  I start with 4 tokens? :)

I'm confused about the "50 game win streak".  How do you go on a win streak with Tetris?  Isn't it a game that never ends?

"Win" here means beating the top score. The way I understand this you would need to beat the current top score and then beat your own top score another 49 times consecutively.

There is something else that is much more problematic, specifically

A $2 processing fee applies to all withdrawal requests. Withdraws are processed within 7 business days. Your winnings are sent to the paypal address you made the payment from.

How long have you been running this ? Bitcoins are not involved in this site, even to get tokens into this it looks like the only option is payment by credit card.

This other part from the FAQ is also interesting

Is this legal?
Yes, playing games for virtual currency is not illegal.

There are no virtual currencies involved. Even if there were, I suggest you to not give legal advice like that.

Win streaks work like this. You play, you get the top score on the leader board.
I play I fail to beat your score, your win streak is now +1. Other people play and fail to beat your score your win streak is +1.

Withdrawals no longer apply... at one point the site was a real cash platform.

When you log in there is an option to buy tokens with bitcoin.

Playing skilled games for virtual currency is not illegal.

You can now also get tokens 100% FREE by downloading apps.

Download either of the two apps using the service now, browse through 30 quotes and you'll get 2 tokens immediately, not days later.

Use your tokens to play in the arcade.

Playing skilled games for virtual currency is not illegal.

Again, please stop giving legal advice.

Crypto currencies are certainly a grey area but it would be great if you tried harder to not advice people on something you simply can't, there are differences for each country (and for each state in USA). There are states in USA that do not allow betting even for skill based games (one of the first results is http://www.quora.com/Online-Gambling/Why-dont-all-states-allow-cash-games-for-skill-based-gaming).

Bitcoin is being offered as a win streak prize. PRIZE. You are not buying or paying for the bitcoin.

For right now if you play and don't beat the high score, you'll have to wait until someone else plays before you can play again.

This is to prevent players from padding their win streak stats

The one before that that failed. I sent you at 00:22 0.003071 and got 2 tokens (not four)

Do I really need to describe that in more detail ?

2) Get the top score at some account x when no one is playing;  3) Get $50 and buy tokens in other accounts, and lose on purpose on those other accounts -> account x gets the win streak. You can't comprehend that you shouldn't be running this promotion.

That was the score of yesterday, that you are talking about (and it is ALSO a bug of your site, I only played 3 minutes, but I DID saw the 34 minutes counting...)

What I am saying is that the score of today did not counted at all (the 34 minute score was less than first place, it was around 16k, the score of today that was ignored was 22k)

Starting soon you'll be able to withdraw your tokens as bitcoin.

So if you made 50 tokens in the arcade, you'll be able to convert those to bitcoin at $0.25 each and cash out.

You'll have to withdraw at least $10.

Again, basic things.... Do you want to run a honest business here ? Then at least show some effort. What's your reserve for handling such withdrawals ? Prove it, the great thing of bitcoins is that it is really easy to show you own or have access to a certain address.

It is funny that every "company" has the best minds, I guess the same set of employers runs every company in the world. You can be confident as much as you want, but you can't answer simple questions. If you have it recovered what's stopping you on proving that you own a certain bitcoin address ?

EDIT: Would you please ask these best minds guys to renew your ssl certificate ? Or companies 4 years in business don't need to properly use https ?

Https is not always necessary with the piles of highly secure modern technologies, from payment services like stripe to database storage like firebase, parse, aws etc.

Bro seriously, can you relax please. We've been in business over 4 years, with the best minds in san francisco offering their expertise. I'm confident we have it covered.

lol bro

It is funny that every "company" has the best minds, I guess the same set of employers runs every company in the world. You can be confident as much as you want, but you can't answer simple questions. If you have it recovered what's stopping you on proving that you own a certain bitcoin address ?

EDIT: Would you please ask these best minds guys to renew your ssl certificate ? Or companies 4 years in business don't need to properly use https ?

Https is not always necessary with the piles of highly secure modern technologies, from payment services like stripe to database storage like firebase, parse, aws etc.

Good to know you are setting new security standards. Even login and signups are done through http, good to know it is all safe with you guys! I didn't know this was also a comedy company.

Yes security is top priority, that's why we use the services of company's who've hired the best security minds available.

It just gets worse, here is the developers API  http://www.gamerholic.com/api/api.php?action=tokens&&key=key&&secret=secret&&user=user

Can you count how many security holes you have allowed with that single line ?

I went to your site now... And I had 4 tokens (dunno why, but my score from yesterday disappeared)

So I went, made 22000 points that got submitted automatically... And?

No score, but tokens gone.

Dude, your site is seriously broken.

Your score was disqualified because it was submitted after 34 mins of play. You have 3 mins to submit your score.

Please Keep in mind you have to insert tokens for your score to count. If you don't insert tokens and play, it's treated as a free practice play

Dude, again, PLEASE read it all before going on defensive.

Yesterday: I tried to pay 1 USD, got 2 tokens.

I then tried to pay more 1 USD, but Electrum failed me.

Then with more 2 free tokens from e-mail activation, I went for 1 match.

On that match, I played for 3 minutes, scored about 16k points, game auto-submitted score after those 3 minutes.

I looked at high scores, and saw my game was listed as 34 minutes.

Today: the previous game was deleted, and my tokens were returned (I had 4 again).

I used the 4 tokens, after 3 minutes the game automatically submitted the scores, that was around 22k

I went to check the high score list, and my score was not listed, but my 4 tokens disappeared.

They can just issue a refund to you, they should have no problem with that, right ? I know it is just $1 dollar for you, but why are you supporting such sites ? This is what makes this place the dream land for scammers.

Can you tell me what to do next? I got stuck at this page.

For right now if you play and don't beat the high score, you'll have to wait until someone else plays before you can play again.

This is to prevent players from padding their win streak stats

I know that. But can you tell me how can I submit my score?

I didn't see me on the leader board.

As you can see, my score is much higher than anyone who is on the leader board, but it's impossible to submit.

So I call this site a scam and waste me $1.

And the purchase history is forever a 404 page, well done, scammer.

That's for your patience, I've tried and retried to replicate your error. All score s submitted within the required time are listed on the leaderboard.

We'll keep trying to replicate

You can practice for free all you want, as long as you insert your two tokens and submit the score within the allotted time it
will register on the leader board.

Glad I could influence the best minds, I just hope "not" means "now".

BUT you failed to understand the issue with the developers API, there is no amount of https that will save you there, you might want to consult the best minds on that.
