Title: Original members of bitcointalk, what do you think about BTC today?
Post by: rlkiwi on April 14, 2018, 02:43:12 AM
Im 34 and legitimately have just signed up to these forums im just wondering what some of the original bitcoiners think about BTC and the world today...

I recently watched the netflix doco Banking on Bitcoin which gave me a fascination and curiosity about its illusive creator Satoshi which lead me to these forums, I find it amazing that i can to this day see his profile on the site and more surprising see that many of the original founders of this forum still regularly sign in and are active in this community, as i am a complete newbie to this whole thing i was wondering what you the original members think about bitcoin today? did you expect it to reach highs over the $20,000 mark? and what do you see in the future for BTC do you see BTC becoming more main stream or do you expect an altcoin to take the reigns?

I honestly wish i had more foresight i remember years ago buying some bitcoin to purchase some stuff on the darkweb never thinking it would amount to much more then what it was only to find out years later that i had wasted a fortune on some small trinkets and gambling websites, i love the fact everything is decentralised and that governments cant touch your funds but as for BTC itself i dont like the delays presented with moving funds.

Also whats your thoughts on Satoshi do you believe he was worried about governments and went into hiding or do you think hes secretly around smiling at his creation proud of what its become?

I really am curious to see what peoples thoughts and opinions are as to the future and look forward to your replies.

Hey 34.

This forum used to be an interesting place.  People talked bitcoin and the technology surrounding it.  I used to run a mining pool and was very involved.

The scammer phase didn't bother me too much, as I had fun busting them.

But when the signature campaigns started, it attracted all the desperate people from non-English backward countries that still believe in magic.  :/

This is no longer a technical forum about bitcoin - it's just an open casino where security seems to be understaffed.

I tried my hand at hardware mining but found the power costs to high for the $$ made at the time :( I still see lots of good conversations around i generally have used this forum to buy cheap software mostly lol

The technology necessary to use bitcoin has changed drastically even in the last year. You could probably not reasonably verify transactions norcthe blochchain using a node created (and not subsequently updated) last year. The necessary technology has evolved even further from 2011, which is the earliest one could claim to be an “original member”.

A lot of very smart people are working on Bitcoin. However I would say that etherum has a fairly decent chance of ultimately succeeding if Bitcoin doesn’t. I would put Bitcoin ultimately succeeding (versus an altcoin )at ~55%

I think today bitcoin is almost still inherent in its origin, with no major technological change. only the price has changed a lot and has the highest volatility in the price history of any material.

Isn't that the truth. The merit system is a great help in improving things, but it can't do the job on its own. I think we need heavier moderation, and for some board posting to be resticted to members or above.  Banning some of the bounty campaigns that encourage the pollution by low grade sig spammers would help as well.

You do see the difference in original members saying what they think about bitcoin today and technical analyses? I just assume thats what they are, did not even click your links as you are way off topic.

Apart from the last post this was interesting and i hope more of the originals respond! :)

Wrote a long post but deleted it, im not a original member.

I think thats an example of the type of post most original members talk about.

Its quite sad really, im a Jnr Member and probably wont get the merit to progress further but i can understand why the need for it. For the most part i enjoy the community here lots of people complain about scammers in the marketplace section however i believe its still safer trading on here then using places like Bitify. Not to mention people are quick to point out its a scam.

What do people think about the whole Satoshi thing?

Why do I get this feeling this is about to turn into Yet Another Spam Megathread?

Also, why is this topic even in meta? It's not about the forum, rather, it's basically speculating about BTC's future prospects.

@Vod - if you are lusting for more technical discussions there is plenty of hot GPU-on-CPU action in the altcoins\mining subforum. We could use a few (more?) merit sources over there, too. Don't wander into altcoins\discussion (and to a lesser extent, but not much lesser, altcoins\announcements), however, because that is ground zero for the sig campaign and bounty hunting spammers.

The topic is for bitcointalk members opinions on bitcoin talk, bitcoin itself and about original bitcoin talk members. i think meta would be the correct forum for this topic.

I was checking a old thread from like 2015, and I read a guy saying that he missed the old days, that the new people have ruined Bitcoin, because all they're focused is on making money and not the technology.

I guess it's easy for him to say since he was probably absolutely loaded with BTC. I just thought that was interesting, because he's looking at it through his very fortunate position.
