Post by: Jacce on November 12, 2013, 08:19:40 PM
Does this forum have any rules? I haven't seen any.

Use your better judgment.

There is a forum moderation policy (although not updated): https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=20333.0

The policy to not remove anything worked when the forum was small. Now that we have thousands of posts a day, we can't afford 50% of them being junk. The moderators are now instructed to be less tolerant of low-value posts.

Some guidelines:

1. Free speech - you can say anything as long as it is relevant and presented in a calm and polite manner. Swearing, SHOUTING etc. make your post more likely to be removed.
2. No zero value posts or threads, like "SELL SELL SELL"
3. No pointless or uninteresting threads.
4. No referral code spam
5. No NSFW content

Common sense and decency if you can muster it

Mods will have their own specific rules

Exactly what I thought. It's the closest thing to what he have got. Rules are normally explained in detail and have different variables. But, this was thought up within 2 minutes and just posted.

That's the trouble with rules "set-in-stone"; once you lay them down, people do whatever they can to circumvent them, and have a safe place to point out that they are, in fact, not breaking the rules, even if their behavior is negative--then you gotta make more rules and more rules until nobody can take the time to read them anymore, and then you're back where you started.  Without them, people are forced to act like adults :P

Exactly. The rules are basically what the mods will tolerate, and there are some very reasonable people in the staff.
Most of the time, if one of your post goes against the "rules", it will get deleted, at which point you know you crossed the line.
Some "trolls" have been banned for reasons I really don't like, while some other "trolls" keep on posting tracking pixels and just get away with a warning, but overall, they're doing a good job in respecting freedom of speech.
