Title: Asics Run by PC Question
Post by: jnasm77 on November 12, 2013, 09:56:35 PM
Nube asks: When running asics from a pc, such as usb asics, does the cpu or motherboard bus speed have an effect on hash rate?

Example: Any different if I run 20 sticks from a 2004 Vaio with a single core 1.3 or if I run them from my desktop with an AMD 8 core with ten times the bus speed?  Will  running wireless or hardwired to the router make a difference?

I don't think that it has that much effect if any at all. But to be safe of bottleneck you should run it on some cheap rig from '08+ else I'd get a pc from the 90s and run it on that.  :D :D

Some USB Hubs have problem running more than few USB Block Errupters.

Will  running wireless or hardwired to the router make a difference?

Internet connection does not matter.

I don't see a difference.

I have them on an old thinkpad X21 running base Arch Linux & cgminer plus it's also running bfgminer controlling some blades at the same time
A Dell D610 running lubuntu & bfgminer.
On my workstation running Windohs 8.1 & cgminer.

Why not try ubuntu?

>:( Can't get the laptop to run bfgminer. The laptop has an old mfr. installed half version of XP. I will have to upgrade or at least install a clean full version and then see what happens.  The XP on that laptop was always buggy, originally sp1. I have a few oh, ummm.... borrowed OS copies laying around, you know just for preservation, the good of humanity and all that.

Sounds old are you sure it has USB2 ports? You can always stick Ubuntu Linux on it if Windows sux.  ;)

Usually its not effected at all because the speed needed is really low... unless if your motherboard and cpu just suck for some reason..

FWIW, I started off with my USB erupters on a 2006 Macbook running Ubuntu.  Also, if you don't need Windows on the laptop, use Linux.  In my experience, it's significantly easier to get USB erupters running with Linux.
