Stealing private keys is easier than stealing a physical thing, since it's harder to detect.

There are many ways to steal private keys, from malware infecting your computer (or any computer you are using and bringing your wallet with you) and stealing the file, maybe keylogger to steal the passwords to phishing to get the passwords for your e-mail, online wallet or exchange account, not forgetting the ways to lure users to send their files (impersonating tech support, offering fake help, ..) or fake software (wallets, browser plugins, dicing or trade bots..)

The people have to understand that crypto currency is money and they have to be very careful about the machine they use for handling that money.

Some are victims of phishing and this is the  easiest  way to steal a private key. They will send a mail or a link to the victim, and when victim accidentaly click that link it will be directed to site which is asking for thier private keys.

Trading with private key is very risky due to programs like keylogger. You have to be very careful.

You can get a hardware wallet, this will solve all your problems. That is basically the only way to have an always offline computer, either that or you could build yourself one. I am not advanced like that, making me opt for the retailer wallet.

Wallets are all the assets you have when investing bitcoin. So we have to protect them safely from being stolen. I think we need to set up a secure password for them. And there must be strict management from the anti-theft system of bitcoin. Make sure the investor will not be stolen wallet.

the end of this lot a lot of theft wallet, I think it is because we do not care in entering the wallet website because a lot of phishing sites, especially on Ethereum wallet. and to prevent it we should use metamask or better to use the offline wallet.

Not only recent days every year hackers are hacking the wallet but currently many new peoples are enter into the Crypto market they don't know how to use the private keys. so easily hack the wallet in nowdays and I am always suggest to use in hardware wallet for beginners because it will reduce the hacking issues in Crypto platform.

The wallet was stolen is usually not found, because the Digital Money Wallet needs a private key to unlock, there are many fishing sites, if you click their links, they will record your keyboard records, or send you a Trojan, so that your computer is likely to be controlled by them.

You can prevent hacking by using more secure wallets, keeping your private key safe and beware of the scammers and phishing sites.

Hacked private keys? If you do talk literally or do mean about getting it by force then it would be somehow an impossible thing yet those keys should be kept and bruteforcing wont really be effective and as a wallet user we should really be serious on keeping those keys because once it would got be compromised then expect sure loss of tokens would be happened. Preventing it would only depend on how a user is sensible in the full security of his own wallet. If you are careless then you are on high risk.

This is completely worst understanding about the crypto wallet mate. If you secured your wallet perfectly there no can attack the wallet at all. If anyone look to encrypt the wallet without private key information it will take 50 years or even more that too with the help of quantum computer. So one will go forward to invest the fund on hacking side.
If you have your wallet with the private key, 2FA and wallet.DAT file it can be hacked. Unless none of fucking hackers cannot be done the crypto wallet hacking.

Hackers can only get a private key by creating a phishing site that masquerades the original site and entices people to fill it. Or maybe your computer has been infected with viruses and malware, resulting in the private key being stolen. To be safe, you should bookmark the e-wallet website of MEW, then when you need to trade, just click on the bookmark instead of access from the strange links, and should buy anti-virus software to prevent stealing personal information.

My first sad experience was when I got stolen 250 Aion tokens and I was desperate. Then I did analyze that I clicked the phishing link to the fake MyEtherwallet and managed to log in. I got that link from Slack. So I gave the key from my wallet all by myself. Now I use couple of wallets, have chrome apps installed don't click on suspicious links and use a standalone PC for large transactions. Further I don't use private-key login anymore.
Also use bookmarked links for wallets and exchanges.

In this case, high-possibility people have gone to the phishing site of that wallet. Experience shows that if stored in any wallet, you need to carefully check whether it is the official website of the wallet or not. Moreover, the safest thing is to bookmark the site so that you can access it whenever there is a need for transfer cryptos. Also, do not enter the private key in the strange website.

To prevent theft of private keys, store them on paper. Check the sites where you use them for authenticity. Do not enter your private key when filling out different forms. Protect your computer from viruses. Do not open suspicious links sent to you by mail.

In recent days, many people's wallets have been hacked and COINS stolen! So what are the means by which hackers get their private keys? How do we prevent it?

Phising and lack of knowledge of the user to use the wallet are the main reasons why there's a lot of people are being hacked. I, myself was hacked before when I was new in crypto. I was in a hurry to filled the airdrops form and I mistakenly put my private keys instead of my ethereum wallet. All my coins on my MEW were hacked by the hacker, and nothing was left.
One of the solution is to buy a a hardware wallet that you can use. In this way, the hackers cannot have access to your funds. You can also delete all your data files in your computer and put it all your files in a USB. Also, you can avoid logging in your mew or your wallet and just import it in ImToken. I imported my mew in my ImToken so I do not waste my time anymore logging in my MEW in my computer. When I want to know if I have receive a new coin, I just check the etherscan or ethplorer of my wallet address or I just check ImToken Apps. I also bought a Ledger Nano for my coins to be safe. And I avoid clicking any mails especially if I do not know the company or the sender. I ask first if its legit or not before I click it. There are so many ways to make our wallets safe. Its up to us to safeguard and protect them.

Yes save it in text format and take print out and delete your text file in your system. Don't ever keep your private keys in mail or system which is connected to the internet. you can also save it to the hard drive but don't use that drive for other purpose.

Those people whose wallet are stolen are careless. Hackers are sending different bait to you. So we should not bite their bait or else our funds will be stolen. We need to takecare always yo protect our funds.

Not everyone is careless sometimes we will click some links without knowing us that time we can't do anything. But you are right we should be careful when we using secure less system.

Avoiding phising sites and getting a Harware wallet can help you eliminate hacking issues. We need to keep our private keys safe and do not click fast any emails you dont know if its scam or legit. Be sure you are not fast in clicking links sent in your emails. Verify it first before clicking to safeguard your assets.

I think they use the generate key, and open one by one, if there is a coin in the wallet they generate, it will be taken. my advice to prevent it though not too much, is to make some wallets, so that when one is hit by a hack, we do not lose it all.

That's an important problem and usually happend today.
Sometimes, it's easy be stolen because we wasn't careful when provide information.
So we need carefully when use private infomation in the internet.
When I began bounty campaign, somtimes i receiver impostrous e-mails request provide some infomation, example, Wallet Address, private key..., they say that i will not receiver tokens of the campaign if i don't give information they request. So lucky, I was very suprise when they request private key so I ask the Admin of campaign on Telegram channel and he say the campaign don't request any things like that and that was SCAMs.

Above is my exprience about risk of stolen wallet. So I think we need be careful when receiver similar requirements.
I hope another member will share their exprience, that is good for prevent the stolen on internet.

Thanks

To me on the mail constantly come letters with strange links allegedly to my wallet and with requests to enter a login and password. Once I even got hooked and lose money. But I take it only as a payment for my carelessness and dispersion! Now I have become more cautious! I advise you to keep the link to your wallet in the notebook and to enter the wallet only by this link!

It’s important to understand that this exploit was not a vulnerability in Ethereum or in Parity itself. Rather, it was a vulnerability in the default smart contract code that the Parity client gives the user for deploying multi-signature wallets...

I've heard that almost nobody could hack MyEtherWallet it's just like a one in a million chance, but the wallet can be compromised.
Phishing - when you reveal your secret key or phrase and JSON file.
Mirror-phishing site with fake address or DNS - it's also a way to get into your account.
I mean hardly anybody can brute your password.

It useless, a hacker will have many ways even if you do not hide the private key when you want to access your wallet directly. Now is the digital era so everyone does not need to peek you to steal the private key that you have. A few months ago we heard of phishing web, that is to say a hacker created a fake site that was exactly the same as the original site and made all users fooled. This is how they steal all the assets we have, how to avoid it is you simply bookmark the original site to log in.

Dear everyone,
Just yesterday, my friend has been stolen ETH from his MEW. Show the transactions he saw at the same time the thief has done many transfer ETH to him MEW. The question here is how the thief have private key to steal ETH from our MEW?
My friend say that he use MetaMask when trade on the decentralized exchanges and that is the only way he give private key. Do you think we have been stolen by using the MetaMask? If this thing is correct, how will we do to prevent this thing in the future?

Thank you so much!

To prevent hackers from taking over the cryptos at e-wallet, you need to improve the security of your e-wallet. Also, for safer, you should bookmark the e-wallet website to access, avoid access to the fake site and lose private key. And for safest, use hardware wallets are always recommended.

I'm not a hacker, but I think that the person who stole it from the very beginning did not properly protect itself, put the antivirus, ran the metamask only through the password, the secret key had completely forgotten where it lies. And so this is the field where the hacker can run away))
