Ok, I'm relisting this since the last time i tried to sell these, I got hacked...

Might be interested in the cooler.   Can you let me know what temperature you were getting with the stock Gigabyte cooler, and what you were getting with the Zalman?

I've recently swapped an (old) reference card for a (brand new) Gigabyte UD, and the Gigabyte runs a good 20 degrees hotter than the reference :(

Did you get the BIOS update for it? Gigabyte seem to let their cards run a bit hotter to benefit noise levels, but since is there is a fix addressing temperature for the UD version I assume they got things wrong with that one.


I'm also interested in knowing how well the Zalman cooler works, especially if there's no spacing between it and the next card.

I have two Gigabyte dual fan cards (5870OC and 5850OC), and they work well alone, or with one slot spacing and a slow 120mm fan feeding a bit of air into the space between the cards – but placing them on top of each other barely works with even with extra airflow and the top GPU running its fans at 100%.

Well, weirdly, when I check the BIOS version on my cards it's version F50, which doesn't appear to exist after googling around a bunch.  I emailed Gigabyte and they replied with:

"Dear Simon ,

Thank you for your kindly mail. Kindly note that there is no BIOS available for the series VGA card you have. Those BIOS on our web site is for other series. Please note that a wrong BIOS update can damage BIOS ROM on your own risk. You can click here and refer to "Why won't my VGA card updata to the latest version BIOS?" section.

If your system runs well but you worry about temperature issue, we suggest you to add system fan to the chassis and make sure air circulation runs well. "

So I can only assume I have a newer revision or something (it does say Rev 2.0 on the cards).   Funnily enough, I just bought another of these and it runs at least 10 degrees cooler than the other, so maybe there's just an issue with that card.  I'll be running two outside the case anyway, so that'll be one of them I guess :)

My bad. The BIOS with the "Enhanced smart fan function" (where I assume "enhanced" means "We got it right this time! Promise!") was for the 5870SO version...
