Title: Re: Buying 10k+ worth of BTC
Post by: JekyllIsland on November 15, 2013, 04:56:11 AM
Are there any notable traders that can do large transactions? Like for instance how did the winkelvoss twins go about purchasing 11 million dollars worth? Is using an exchange the only option and if so who do you recommend? I hear a lot of negative experiences about coinbase. I was thinking of using bitstamp or BTC-e. I currently use localbitcoins but there aren't many traders that offer large tnransactions. I'd rather avoid exchanges as I don't want the IRS visiting me. Even though that's probably inevitable...

I regret not buying more when i had the chance at cheaper prices, and I don't want to be saying that again in the future. I'm putting my money in Bitcoin understanding that it's value could drop to $0 so save the lecture. The people that were made fun of for putting their life savings in BTC are the ones laughing now(even though that was rather reckless and easily could have ended differently). Any advice is appreciated.

Get in contact with someone who has a lot of BTC to sell, best chances are people who are into mining.

Find a suitable escrow.

Then trade outside of the exchange without fees.

Are you looking to buy 10k coins or coins worth 10k USD?

Lmfao i wish i was buying 10k coins. Sorry i changed the title of the thread to make it clear. I plan on buying approx 10-20k. Do you have any traders in mind? I figured there would be some people here. With a transaction like this I would have to either meet in person or use escrow.

I'd be very careful, at least with an exchange you're semi safe. With an exchange you can then do the 10k in small amounts which will obviously limit your exposure.

Go through an exchange but slowly buy and maybe use escrows for selling off to people!

Thanks for the advice. I know there must be a lot of naive newbies jumping into quick and avoiding escrow. I don't plan on trading without it.  8)

I was denied at bitstamp after submitting a valid passport and credit card bill. Apparantly the min. balance due date wasn't enough for them. As of now i have a ticket submitted, although if i can find a reputable vendor i don't see any advantage to using an exchange.

I agree that buying incrementally is the best bet. I can also get bitcoins for a cheaper price if a correction occurs anytime soon. What exchanges do you recommend besides btc-e and bitstamp? I have tickets submitted at both of these sites.
