Agree. Using the 'Bitcoin|Startup' metaphor, the number of BTC now in circulation corresponds to the number of (basic) shares issued. Most companies have far more than 12M shares out (EG, Goldcorp has 800M+ outstanding). 12M is considered an extremely tight share structure, which for investors is very much preferable to a loose, diluted one. The next 10M BTC may be considered options and warrants, unissued shares to be released at a future date. But we know almost exactly when they will be exercised.
