Title: Bitcoin Forum to create social media sites to replace facebook and twitter
Post by: Xester on April 21, 2018, 01:51:23 AM
Hello guys I know you have heard about the recent banning of cryptocurrency by facebook and twitter. And is somewhile I am thinking if we could just have a social media of our own which is dedicated to the growth and development of cryptocurrency. With this I am asking the creator of this forum if they will accept this idea that they will create an extension of this forum that looks like facebook and twitter so that we no longer need to use facebook and twitter anymore. This is a call for revolution against those social media sites who are abusing their power and authority.

So what do you think guys is my opinion good or just a plain nonsense.

I am thinking if we could just have a social media of our own

I thought that's what we were already doing here? I would argue that a forum is social media, and here we all are, socializing on an internet platform. What do you believe to be missing from this website that would be required to make a Social Media Platform?

It would seem that anything you would get out of those sites, outside of some useless features can be found here. There are security concerns when it comes to Bitcoin-related interactions, because there is a lot of money at risk and it will naturally be a concentrated target for attacks.

we need those social media to recruit new members to learn about bitcoins and hopefully to invest on our ICO project, most of the people here already knows about bitcoin so we need some newbies out there to join us.

Well, its a good idea to do this because it may also get attention of new members and more people to join the forum as well. It is also a good thing to do this so that many investors will invest in cryptocurrencies and bitcoin, particularly.

This a task that will hard to accomplish obviously its a good idea or way of bypassing sanctions against cryptocurrencies by those media, we need to advertise, promote and publicize cryptocurrencies aggressively.

Its a good idea but if I understood the crypto ban correctly this was mainly affecting advertising companies and not us in the capacity of a single user and I think having our own social media would help us because basically this would mean segregating ourselves from the world and that's not what we need right now. And considering Facebook and Twitter are currently the heavy weights in the social media business crypto groups could benefit from this in the long run to grow their own fan bases and tbh i think for now its not really necessary to break our from fb or Twitter.

there is already this forum and a couple of others, there is Reddit, there is mailing lists, IRC channels and for real development there is github where you can see the code and pull requests,...
Facebook and the others were not used for "growth and development" they were used for advertising ICO crap every day.

I agree with your idea. There are already some blockchain based social media platform but I think it will be more popular if the social media site will be created by the creator of this forum. We truly need to revolutionize!

I do not believe the Bitcoin forum can replace favorite media sites like Twitter and Facebook, as very few people know about Bitcoin forums. Twitter and Facebook have a user base, and it's straightforward and everyone can use it, more social networking sites to promote more projects with conferences.

Well your idea is awesome, but the problem is not all people are aware of this community, also they are not aware of using cryptocurrencies, facebook and twitter are one of thr pioneers in the internet and social media industry, and so it will take time to publicize the extension of thic forum. Unlike twitter and facebook that globally known.

Many things should be considered further. such as the confidentiality of user data that can be used as a tool for fraud, because we know, if this social media for cryptocurrency, it will likely be the target of fraud.

Yes, social media nowadays is a very strong and powerful platform to educate, promote and introduce an idea to the masses all over the world. If this will be pushthrough this can surely widen the market of bitcoin. With the banning of twitter and facebook their is so much misinformation and ignorance about what bitcoin can really do to change people's lives. This is actually a good thing because it can provide a balance and fair information about what bitcoin really is.

It will be hard to achieve the feat that those social medias attained. Gaining a lot of supporters like them would be hard for a social media that would be focused solely on cryptocurrencies. The reason why we advertise on social media is to attract new potential investors who still don't have a single idea about cryptos and developing a social media just like what you said will unlikely to get many supporters.

The idea is good but real bitcoiners doesn't do socialization everyday they/we just prefer that there/our  identity should not be known by others like Facebook users. Facebook, twitter can be used to promote but  the main purpose for that is to entertain people, and to make fake people with fake posts everyday. Unlike the given social medias above my post such as reddit, github, and especially this forum helps an individual a lot, giving information's that can help us/you to make money by internet.

that's a good idea, if cryptocurrency companies make social media accessible to everyone including non-members of this forum.
we will more easily spread the ads about cryptocurrency.

if what you think is social media as a place for discussion and development of cryptocurrency, this forum has become a forum for the idea. but if you think social media like facebook and twitter as crytocurrency recognition platform for ordinary people, I strongly agree and will support. because for some people, seeing the design and features in the bctalk forums is very foreign and difficult to understand. so we need a new place to get people to be more interested in bitcoin in an easier and more fun way.

We do not need to create social media, this forum is more than enough as a source of information about cryptocurrency. But if your concern is related to bounties where you can earn extra money from the social medias then it will be useless for this forum to create a new social media for that purpose as the audiences/readers will be the same as what we have here.
If it is really needed to have social media, I guess this forum do not need to create a new one. There are many other social medias in this world, just contact them to make a cooperation or just use them just like we use facebook or twitter.

I believe a forum is a form of social media because we are all interacting, we just aren’t “friends” on this platform, id like to see bitcoin forum create a platform though, this would give BTC a step in the right direction towards becoming mainstream.

using Facebook and Twitter is part of an advertising strategy. All of the campaigns are using facebook and twitter for mainly educate and advertise the bitcoin direct to social media users. Using Facebook and Twitter are the main medium and make a big impact to the social media and one of the main reason is to directly reach-out the individuals to tell them using bitcoin it will help you to save and make a profit.

Op's suggestion isn't out of place but maybe he didn't understand thats what the forum is already doing and like somebody said, bitcoin involves high level of security because it involves huge money investment. We are already doing well and going like facebook etc would further expose us to bigger level of scam.  The security, red lights from members warning others is really ok and working. I'm enjoying this forum mods and handlers. They are up in their game.

I think we there's no need for this, those social media's like facebook and twitter are used by ICO's and cryptocurrency related services to promote their project, and we are already doing this here in the forum (bounty and signature campaigns). The only difference is it is more effective to advertise to those social media platforms because it has more traffic. And also creating a social media for cryptocurrency investors/traders is not a good idea, of course we always want to remain anonymous. About the social media banning those cryptocurrency ads, I don't think that they are abusing their power to destroy cryptocurrency market, it is just that there are lots of fraudulent and scam advertisements that is being broadcast in their platform, and of course they will find a solution to prevent those fraudulent activities to happen in their websites, but they should allow those legit or reputable crypto related companies to advertise.

It's not a bad idea, I just think that it's not necessary at the moment because as one user already pointed out there's a lot of places to post and share ideas about crypto development. Also people can still post whatever they want on facebook and twitter it's not like you'll get banned for posting crypto stuff.  You can make a thread on the new forum software board (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=167.0) for a more detailed post or just move this thread there.  If this becomes a reality I would still use Facebook, Twitter and other social media sites because one website isn't enough for me and I doubt everyone would use right away.

I am thinking if we could just have a social media of our own

We need facebook and tweeter. We, as a matter of fact, in them do advertising and we show, we bring new people in business. But it is not profitable for them to drive out, as there will be less users and their rating will fall. To me, in life they are not needed, not interesting, I love real life.

I believe it's the power of the community having same beliefs and we trust in decentralization. Even though the crypto forums don't have decentralized infrastructure when it comes to forums, they respect the opinion of the users and I would appreciate the management of Bitcointalk for adopting changes suggested by the members. I won't blame anyone when it comes to the giants in social media because as a user, I know if I am not paying anything then I am giving my data which is used by those sites to make money.

In all honesty, we really don't need something like Facebook and Twitter. They are social media sites that are merely used by the masses and will not help the growth that we seek for cryptocurrency. Those platforms are only targeted by the people who wanted to promote their ICOs to those who don't know anything about it and get their dumb money for easy profit.

What we really need to do is to provide verifiable and true information about cryptocurrency to the masses. They don't need to provide their personal identity to get involved in cryptocurrency (in contrary to what Facebook is doing). We don't need to copy the concept behind those identity-mining companies.

I for one supports this notion wholeheartedly; since most youths these days are involved one way or the other in cryptocurrency, having a platform that can host different mindsets in one place would be quite innovative. Apart from the fact that this platform can be a guide to 1st timers who would like to ask much questions, it can also be an avenue to be abreast of what is trending in the global market per time and keep ou conscious of token sale etc. So i say it should start in earnest, if possible.

I believe that the development of cryptocurrencies goes beyond the promotion of ICOs in social networks, and we must keep in mind that the Internet is much more than Facebook and twitter because there are thousands of websites where we can still share and investigate about the advances of this vast crypto universe.

In fact, places social networks like Reddit and Steemit have proven to be more adequate and efficient to share information on these issues than Facebook and twitter, so I think we can survive without them.

I am still wondering what exactly could be done on social media like Facebook and Twitter which could not be on this well fortified forum. Mode of operations may be different but even if it becomes necessary for such a platform, I would rather suggest another section be created in this forum to cater for whatever is to be done on your proposed social media site.

This is a good idea and it’s sad that Facebook and Twitter is doing the banning. However, like some have already said this is pretty much the new social media for this. Where people can meet specifically like minded people and communicate and meet. This site is very promising and the more people learn about this the better.

Our good pal Xetsr has not made this an easy thing to figure out, because they've posted this thread and left us in the dust. I hope they pop their head back in here for a little bit of elaboration and collaboration to build up their idea or mark it as impossible.

It would seem of minimal benefit to implement such a feature, who would that benefit? I imagine it would cause a lot of people to be followed around the forum more than they already are. Lower-ranking members following the reputable higher-ranking members to rephrase their posts and pass them off as their own.

For me we don't need to create another social media site for our discussion Bitcointalk forum is enough fo us. Even social media campaign remove we have an additional options like signature campaign, youtube and blogging this campaign is really enough to promote ICO's bounty campaign. For making videos in YouTube we could also Advertise bounties and Ico. So we have  mo problem if social media banned promoting cryptocurrency as long as promoters and bounty hunters deserves to earn and to help they would do all things no matter what happened.

Use Bitcoin to bring new flavors for content creation and social interaction, such as reviews and photo sharing, through economic incentives. Bitcoin fans are unable to use these networks with networks using alternative currencies. Through Bitcoin to motivate content creation and online interaction, it will outperform those social networking platforms that use alternative currencies. If you want to go beyond FACEBOOK, there is still a long way to go for blockchain technology, at least to reflect true decentralized management and confidence storage, and to make your own advantages is fundamental.

And it is not that easy to create a forum like a Facebook or Twitter as they will create features like adding friends and everything. For me, bitcointalk forum itself is fine with me. I am contented with how things are going and I am fine with everything here.
IMO, It may set up everything complicated if this forum will turn into fb or twitter.

But I  agree that maybe we can add some tweaks to make our forum more exciting, more organized and at the same time educate more members here.

Thats a great idea indeed:
To decentralize social networks.

Bitcointalk isnt a replacement of it either, simply because it is not decentralized either.

There are a couple of blockchain projects that are trying to be alternate to the likes of Facebook and Twitter, some of the popular names are:
- Dispora (lets you host your own social networking pod)
- Steemit (sort of centralized again, but gives you money for every popular post you make).

Maybe we need a network that merges the 2 ideas above and is as decentralized as Bitcoin, with decentralized hosted nodes that no one person controls and so on.

I don`t think that Bitcoin Forum will be able to replace FB and Twitter for now (at least in the nearest future). If you take a closer look at the recent statistics you will notice that the number of people who visit FB monthly reached 1.9 billion in 2016. What about Twitter...in january-march 2017 there were 328 millions users who visited it. This social networks along with Instagram have proved to be user-friendly, fast, useful and convinient. Moreover, people got used to it and they will hardly gave them up. And what also matters is that there`re still many people who didn`t hear about crytocurrencies, blockchains etc. The situation won`t change until officials and politicians come to some sort of agreement.  ;)

I think that's a great idea. but the idea will not be effective in advertising. Essentially, social media like facebook and twitter are tools to promote various ico easily and precisely on target. although interested investors are not as big as in this forum.

I think the problem with centralized Ad engines like Google or Facebook is, they do not have the mental bandwidth to judge if the ICOs are genuine or their platform will become an instrument of their scam, which is why they are banning it for the moment, only to come back to it later.

So what do you think guys is my opinion good or just a plain nonsense.

if I think it's still quiet because a lot of social media is now popping up, just like its Medium and Steemit.

if only Twitter and Facebook Banned ads Crypto not too in trouble. we are positive because there are many solutions.

this group can also be famous to all corners of the world when we can develop together Cryptocurrency.

Even if the forum owner agrees to do this, the new site will not be able to compete with Facebook. The daily traffic of Facebook would be more than what this forum gets yearly currently.

Actually, the idea of a social networking website is that people who are busy with jobs can contact with friends in their free time. I do not think that something with discussions only about finance and crypto will work in case of a social network.

Do not worry about any banning by social media platforms because a time will come they will be looking forward to see people coming to place cryptocurrency related advert in their platform. We have so many blockchain oriented social media platforms existing and we also have upcoming that are running ICO.

Already we have many crypto social media available and existing today but it won't replace Facebook and twitter because majority of people using those platforms are not crypto people.
