"Governance," in its contemporary use, has never left and is not something one should try to cling to. It refers to the capacity to administrate (rule over) a political body through means other than just one level of the state. Governance encompasses corporations, NGOs, think tanks, foundations and various other "ruling bodies" that are in no way elected - or in many cases even known of - by the people.

America should be attempting to return to a Constitutional Republic, not continuing to decay into another cog in global "governance."

A Constitutional Republic is unsustainable and will always lead to the mess we have today because people always want more than they can afford and politicians will always be there to pander to that. The fact that majority of the people are idiots who have no idea about who is really in control and would rather not find out about it and would rather focus silly things like rampant consumerism doesn't help either.
